Ethan Flood is a United Federation Politician and Military Officer who is best known for his service as the 17th President of the United Federation. Before taking office, he served for 24 consecutive terms as Governor and Senator for the State of New Alaska. He was elected on the 31st of July 2021, and was sworn in on the 6th of August. Flood was a member of the Union Party, and broadly categorized as a center-Liberal politician. After disavowing Alex Knebel and denouncing Ryan Madden, he would be one of the founding members of the United Federation Government-in-Exile.
As President, the majority of his tenure was defined by a stagnant economy and low public participation. Despite winning in a Landslide, very little actual legislation was introduced by any party within the State Council or the High Command. Indeed, this trend of stagnation and non-innovation had been apparent since the end of the Schwartz Administration in the international sphere, earmarked by the total collapse of the Republic of Crimson Dusk, and the internal coup and counter-coup in Valentino/New Bavaria.
However, towards the end of Flood's term, the broad disinterest and economic collapse that had gripped the entire Sun Prairie Nations for the past 7 months finally began to end. The F.W.R., Despa, the United Federation, the New UNSC, and the United Manonan States all began major military buildups, as the tension between the F.W.R. and Valentino, which had finally re-stabilized itself, came to a boiling point. While Flood is not solely responsible, his administration oversaw a clean and, for many, a very smooth recovery, and thus he is greatly associated with this period of restoration. He was succeeded by a member of his own party, Alexander Knebel, on Nov. 2nd, 2021.
Flood was initially a commodore in the United Federation Air Force, but as with many early commissions, the exact date of his service starting has been lost. After the reformation, of which he was strongly in favor, he founded the State of New Alaska, which became part of the industrial cluster of states around New Illinois and north of the Central Republics, an area that would eventually become known as the Rust Belt. When the economic collapse of the Zink Administration hit the state, Flood handled the crisis better than most governors, though his own position in this is disputed, as others say New Alaska was more suited to deal with a loss as it had a more diversified economy. Nevertheless he was immensely popular in his own state, and his approval rating remained one of the highest in the United Federation, and nationwide, he was one of the most popular governors.
Under his leadership, New Alaska became one of the largest states in the Union by population, and though it never economically overperformed at the level of certain other states, it nevertheless became an influential state in many domestic issues and in certain foreign affairs, specifically, in foreign policy in relation to the Central Republics. New Alaska aligned itself heavily with the Union Party in the early party era, an affiliation that would hold steady for the state's whole history.
