2024 CARNIVAL RE
FAITH
OPT-OUT POLICY FOR PROMOTIONAL PHOTOS
As we gear up for another exciting year of 4-H activities and events, we want to take a moment to remind everyone about our policy regarding the use of photographs for promotional efforts.
If you have selected the option, “I do not want my child’s picture to be used for promotional efforts,” in the 4hOnline enrollment system, it is crucial that you take responsibility to ensure your child is not included in any photographs taken at 4-H club, county, or state events.
Boulder County 4-H strictly adheres to a policy that prohibits the use of photographs of minors connected with their name or other identification. With the increasing number of members selecting this option, it is simply not feasible for us to monitor the use of photographs if your child is inadvertently included.
Please be aware that we utilize photographs for various purposes, including display boards at the county fair, presentations at Achievement Night, and sharing on social media platforms. If your child is in a photograph on a 4-H club website, the webmaster will promptly remove those pictures to honor your request.
While we understand and respect the need for privacy in certain circumstances, such as custodial issues and adoptions, it is important to emphasize that we are unable to monitor individual preferences regarding the use of photographs.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in ensuring the privacy and comfort of all our members. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this policy, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

RECORD BOOKS ARE AVAILABLE
Record Books are Available!
The 2023-24 4-H record books (e-Records) are available to download! It is never too early to start recording your 4-H Information. They are on the Boulder County 4-H Web Page: https://boulder.extension.colostate.edu/4h/4-h-projects/ As well as the state 4-H pages along with lots of supporting info like tip sheets, fair info, animal ID, etc.
Livestock - http://co4h.colostate.edu/program-areas/animals/
General projects - http://co4h.colostate.edu/program-areas/fcs/
Also - http://co4h.colostate.edu/program-areas/creative-arts/
Download your record book(s) and save them to your computer. Many come in both Excel and PDF versions. PDF is easier, especially if you just have one project. But Excel supports copy and paste and is better for kids doing multiple projects. If it is saved to your computer, you can just update it throughout the year as you go. You can also always print them out and do them by hand - your choice.
Download one for each project, and 1 for every 4 livestock projects. (For example, cake decorating has its book, shooting sports has its book, etc. Livestock allows for 4 livestock projects to be combined in one book, so dairy goats, utility goats, poultry, rabbits, etc, can all be together.) Dog and horse have their books.
Happy Record Keeping!
VOLUNTEER HOURS
Just a friendly reminder: Your volunteer hours are as priceless as your dedication to our 4-H program! As Sherry Anderson wisely said, "Volunteers don’t get paid, not because they’re worthless, but because they’re priceless."
We're here to help you shine by capturing your valuable contributions. Please take a moment to report your January and February hours using 4honline. Whether you prefer to log them monthly, weekly, or daily, your efforts are what truly make a difference.
For guidance on reporting, check out the attached PowerPoint. And if you have any questions, we're always here to assist. Thank you for all you do for our program!
Keep up the fantastic work, Boulder County 4-H Leaders!
CLUB NEWS
4X4 DOG CLUB
4x4 Dog Club
BY MANDY ROTH
This weekend at the National Western Stock show complex was the Denver Dog Show. This is a huge AKC dog show hosted annually where you can meet all kinds of dog breeds, learn about dogs, and watch some amazing dogs show. Our club organized free admission to club members on Sunday. We all had a blast seeing all the dogs and watching different dog events like conformation, junior showmanship, rally, obedience, dock diving, a flyball demonstration, and more. We even had some club members participate showing their own dogs in rally, obedience, dock diving, and junior showmanship. Our own club member Kyra Sutton was featured in the Fox 31 News segment covering the event. If you are interested in participating in an event like this contact our club or go to www.akc.org to learn more. While you do need to be registered with the American Kennel Club, only confirmation and junior showmanship require you to have a purebred dog, other events like rally and obedience are open to all types of dogs! :)
We are looking forward to training starting up this month. We can't wait to see everyone and their dog.
Here are some pictures you can choose from!
FANTASTIC FRIENDS
Recap of our latest Fantastic Friends meeting! Last Saturday, February 17th, we had a blast hanging out with Joy, the adorable preemie baby goat.
Our activities included cookie decorating and engaging discussions about the dog project.
It was another memorable day filled with laughter, learning, and, of course, lots of fun!
ST. VRAIN SUPER SWINE
Check out these awesome moments from our February St. Vrain Super Swine Club meeting! We kicked things off with our first-ever officer installation ceremony, setting the tone for a great year ahead. Plus, we have a snapshot of Payton Kayser rocking her demonstration.
GOATS AND GALORE
Goats & Galore Community Service - by Andie Rizner, club Reporter
This month at the Goats and Galore meeting the whole club participated in a community service by writing valentines for the senior residents at Hover Senior Living. Everyone decorated cards with stickers and markers. Older club members and parents helped the younger club members and siblings write nice notes in the cards reminding the residents that they are loved and wishing them a Happy Valentine’s Day. Everyone was excited to spread love and joy around during this holiday.

POULTRY SUPERINTENDENTS NEEDED
Poultry Superintendents Needed
Are you passionate about poultry? Do you love working with young people and helping them develop their skills? Then we have the perfect opportunity for you! As the Poultry Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent for Boulder County 4-H, you'll play a vital role in guiding our members through the exciting world of poultry projects.
As a Superintendent, you'll oversee all aspects of the poultry program, from organizing workshops and training sessions to coordinating competitions and events. You'll provide support and guidance to our members as they raise and care for their birds, ensuring they have the knowledge and resources they need to succeed.
As an Assistant Superintendent, you'll work closely with the Superintendent to help plan and execute various activities and initiatives. Whether it's assisting with record-keeping, mentoring youth members, or helping to set up for shows and exhibitions, you'll be an essential part of the team.
Both positions offer a rewarding opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of young people while sharing your passion for poultry. You are not required to be full experts in your species, so don’t let that limit the idea of you or someone you know in helping with the program. The positions will help and learn along with the superintendents for the 2024 Boulder County Fair with the intention to take over the role for the following year.
If you are interested in more information or know of someone who might consider volunteering, please contact Brenda at the 4-H Office. Applications are open, so apply today.

DAIRY CATTLE
DAIRY STEER PROGRAM
Boulder County 4-H 2-year Dairy Steer Program (DSP)
The 4-H Dairy Cattle program is offering new classes. It promotes another side of the Dairy project. Learn how this project enters into our food chain other than with milk products. The dairy sector contributed 5.6 billion pounds (21 percent) of beef to the U.S. commercial beef supply. Dairy steers are well known for their ability to produce the highest quality grades of beef (Prime and High Choice cuts).
This will be a 2-year project, you will start with a bull calf, castrate, and feed him.
Dairy Cattle Project: Did you know?
Did you know that you can also do the Dairy Cattle Project and learn all the aspects of the dairy industry without you, yourself ever having to milk her?
You can start with a calf and exhibit the same heifer for 2 years (2 fairs) by following the DHRP (Dairy Heifer Replacement Program) rules & guidelines. You will also have an opportunity to sell your heifer through the Livestock Sale once she’s bred (check the rules), knowing that she will carry on in life as a producing cow. You could even apply to the Ag Youth Loan Program where you can purchase a calf for the 2-yr program or you can purchase a bred yearling that you can sell at the 2024 fair. You must have possession & ownership by the last Thursday in April (animal ID deadline) along with turning in the DHRP nomination form to the 4-H office.
If the idea of selling a dairy heifer interests you, please check out the DHRP rules and guidelines especially prior to purchasing a new heifer for this program. For more information about these programs or on the Dairy Cattle Project itself, even help in finding a dairy heifer, or a bull calf. Call Tina (303) 828-3789 or email: runrunnerrun@aol.com
