Practical Information and Code of Conduct

Registration will take place 12:30-13:25 in the Maths Learning Centre on the first floor of the Watson Building, which is R15 on the Campus Map. All talks will take place Lecture Theatre A on the ground floor of the Watson Building.

If any participant has access requirements or would benefit from financial support for childcare to attend this conference then they are encouraged to contact Simon Goodwin (S.M.Goodwin@bham.ac.uk).

If you require accommodation, then it is recommended that you book a room at the Edgbaston Park Hotel when you register for the event.

Information on travel to the University of Birmingham can be found on the Getting Here page. It is recommended that you travel by train and arrive at University Station.

You can use the Campus Map to find your way around the University of Birmingham. You can find University Station on the Map, and the Edgbaston Park hotel.

All talks and coffee breaks will be in the Watson Building, which is R15 on the Campus Map.

Breakfast is provided as part of the accommodation at the Edgbaston Park Hotel, and the conference dinner forms part of the workshop schedule. Due to budget constraints we will not be providing support with other meals. We have given suggestions for places to eat below.

Information on places to eat and drink

There on-campus options for lunch, and you can find information about these on Food Outlets on Main Campus, the main options are located in R23 on the Campus Map; we are unsure at present about whether all of these options will be available for the week of the workshop. There is the option to have lunch and/or dinner at the Edgbaston Park Hotel. There further options on the Bristol Road in Selly Oak including a Chinese, Japanese, Indian and Korean restaurants ;you can get to these via the Grange Road Gate shown on the Campus Map. If you are happy to go a little further, then there are more restaurants in Harborne and the City Centre. You may want to ask a local for recommendations.

COVID guidance

We recommend that participants take a LFT in advance of attending the workshop. During the talks and coffee breaks we recommend that face coverings are worn. The guidance from the University of Birmingham can be found on the Safety on Campus page.

Code of Conduct

The School of Mathematics is committed to providing a welcoming, inclusive and safe community for all. We expect co-operation and support from all staff, students and visitors to help ensure a harassment-free environment where everyone is treated with courtesy, respect and dignity.

Examples of harassment include, but are not limited to:

  • offensive or belittling comments related to age, body size, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity and expression, physical appearance, sexual orientation, socio-economic status and religion;

  • continued disruption of talks or other events;

  • inappropriate language (this does not need to be aimed directly at an individual(s) for it to contravene the code);

  • deliberate intimidation;

  • harassing photography or recording;

  • inappropriate physical contact;

  • unwelcome sexual or other forms of attention.

Such behaviours are not welcome in the School of Mathematics and will not be tolerated.

We also reject complicity that knowingly promotes, encourages, or protects discrimination or unprofessional behaviour on the part of others.

Should anyone experience or witness behaviour contravening the School of Mathematics’ Code of Conduct, please intervene where you feel comfortable doing so. We strongly urge you to report this behaviour:
