I got my RG350 today and have been messing around with various emulators. Everything I've tried so far has worked well (Wonderswan and Turbografix weren't loading, but I unzipped the roms and they worked after that). However no matter what I try, I can't seem to get Fceux working. I've tried the one that came stock on the machine and I also added the OPK file manually to my external card and tried that one, but either way when I go to load a ROM file it just flashes and then goes back to the file selection screen. Zipped and unzipped ROMs do the same thing.

FCE Ultra was forked from FCE (Family Computer Emulator).[9] Its last full release was version 0.98.12 in August 2004, while a pre-release version 0.98.13-pre was released in September 2004 as source code only. After that, development appeared to stop and the homepage and forums for the emulator were taken down.

FCEUX was first publicly released on August 2, 2008. This fork of the emulator has continued steady development since then, allowing the other forks to become deprecated, and now has features the original FCE Ultra does not, such as native movie recording support and the ability to extend, enhance, or alter gameplay with Lua scripts. Thus it has become far more advanced than its predecessors.[14]

So this just started happening out of nowhere, possibly due to stupid windows updates. When I load an nes game through launchbox, my resolution just keeps changing back and forth from 1080 to the resolution I have fceux set to run on (with a blank screen). Same thing happens if I drag and drop a nes rom file to the emulator executable file.

If I open up fceux, and then manually go to open a rom through the menus it opens properly. Any clue what could be going on? I haven't changed any settings since it last worked, but there was a recent windows update.

I'll give these a shot, do they support Xinput properly? Xinput with FCEUX is starting to appear problematic to me.

I have solved my issue (using windows 10 ver 17134). My emulator settings are "fullscreen after game is loaded". My resolution and setting mimic that of a real SNES on a crtc (resolution goes down to 1280 1024 32 bpp).

What was causing me issues was Windows "focus assist". I turned all automatic rules OFF ans set it to "ALARMS ONLY". I have no clue why it was causing me issues.

I also tried setting custom to my screen res but it just stays in a black box on the upper left hand corner of my screen and still plays the game. I can't see anything but it still plays. THis is honestly ****ing retarded, the emulator should just have an option to go full screen, not have me **** around with stupid options that make the user confused. JNES will go full screen for me perfectly fine. I just click on it in a menu and it goes full screen. That is how FCEUX should handel things. Sorry to rant, but I am angry, I have tried everything and nothing will work.

FCEUX is an open source emulator for the 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System console and its Japanese version called Super Famicom. With this emulator, you can play most of the titles from the NES catalog on any PC. Best of all, FCEUX also includes tons of advanced tools, so you're sure to get the most out of the emulation experience.

The emulator is compatible with the following NES ROM formats: NES, NFS, FDS and UNF. However, it can also work with ROMs stored in ZIP files, RAR, and 7z. It also lets you save games and control system configurations, along with offering the typical post-processing image filters to make it look like you're playing on an old-school CRT monitor.

The FCEUX concept is that of an "all in one" emulator that offers accurate emulationand the best options for both casual play and a variety of more advanced emulatorfunctions. For pro users, FCEUX offers tools for debugging, rom-hacking, map making,tool-assisted movies, and Lua scripting

This tutorial is to help you with FCEUX for Windows (previously called FCE Ultra). FCEUX is an excellent Nintendo emulator. It's been around a long time. Nestopia comes pretty close to FCEUX in terms of quality. Versus Nestopia, FCEUX has more intricate features for the advanced emulation enthusiast. It hasn't been updated since 2016, but it's still a good emulator.

With all the emulator offerings as of 2023, should you use FCEUX? Well, you shouldn't. I mean, NES emulation is pretty basic and easy to program an emulator for. You could continue using FCEUX if you really want to. You probably wouldn't notice any significant differences if you compared it with a modern emulator.

If you prefer an all-in-one package, the multi-system emulator, RetroArch, is a great option for NES emulation as well. It supports over 40 video game systems. It even includes a core (an emulator) for FCEUmm. It's the latest fork in the FCE family of NES emulators. Hence, you can enjoy FCE-quality emulation with a more modern experience.

FCEUX is a standalone program, so it does not have an install wizard. Installation is simple: just extract FCEUX from its zip file. To make things clearer, check out the video below that shows how to 'install' a portable emulator (it shows Snes9x, but FCEUX is the same process). It's pretty straight-forward - all that you're doing is extracting a zip file while doing a little bit of folder management. If you want to 'uninstall' a portable emulator, simply delete it!

*All the RPG shrines in my FantasyAnime.com offer complete collections of periodical game saves. With them, you can continue at any significant point in the game. I offer a Game Saves Tutorial where you can learn more about how to use somebody else's saves. You can also learn about how to transfer saves between other emulators.

Thank you for reading my tutorial! If you found it useful, please spread the word that this is an awesome site to get help with emulators and emulation! If you have questions, you're welcome to email me or message me on social media.

FCE Ultra Extended, typically shortened to FCEUX, is an open-source Famicom (NES) and Famicom Disk System (FDS) emulator. It began as an amalgamation of several FCE Ultra forks, designed to unify the then vast number of FCE Ultra branches with differing features. FCEUX has itself been forked, though mostly to increase the amount of platforms it is on, such as a GameCube and Wii port known as FCE Ultra GX.

Despite its extensive toolset, it is less accurate than other NES/FDS emulators like Nestopia, Mesen and puNES. However, thanks to FCEUmm being one of the forks it incorporates, it still has its uses as a highly compatible standalone emulator. It is recommended to download the latest AppVeyor build as the stable release is very old. It is also popular for developing new NES games, due to its excellent debugging tools. However, if you develop games/ROM hacks, be sure to test them on more accurate emulators, and/or with a flash cart on the real system to ensure compatibility.

Gotten several people saying that Mesen is not running the demo properly and is causing the game to crash when using an attack or heal. Recommended emulator is currently FCEUX link to the emulator here:

Sounds weird for sure. Anyway, if you are looking for the best Snes emulator as far as accuracy goes (and also one that is actively being developed) I'd say go for BSnes. It's not the fastest (due to it's accuracy, although there are faster/less accurate settings available) but it certainly is the the one closest to the real thing, it even has lots of nice opengl glsl based filters that makes it look like you are playing on an old TV/RGB monitor.

Is there anything new on this subject? Both fceux and Snes9x shows the same behaviour; running for several seconds and then segfaulting. This can't be due to the emulators themselves, I've had the same Snes9x-GTK version from AUR during a long time and it used to work like a charm. The Nvidia proprietary driver seems to be a possible source of error, but how can it be resolved? Is using the nouveau driver the only solution in sight? That would mean going through the Xorg tweaking and font size hell while trying to get my desktop slightly usable again.

Thank you defears, that was actually a really good idea, though it doesn't seem to be the reason for the segfault crashes.

I changed /etc/pulse/client.conf to "autospawn = no". When starting fceux it now says "Loading SDL sound with alsa driver...", so Pulseaudio is really disabled, but the segfault still occurs.

I use openbox, so there are no odd shells or effects or anything that can affect my system.

FCEUX is a games emulator for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), Famicom, Famicom Disk System (FDS), and Dendy. It supports NTSC (USA/JPN), PAL (European), and NTSC-PAL Hybrid modes.

Note that to actually play any game with FCEUX you will need ROM images in one of the supported formats, not included with the download.

I'm happy to report that I used fceux a couple of days ago to play some NES games, and whereas previously it had a couple of odd rough edges, this time it worked perfectly and smoothly, including fullscreen and saving/restoring states.
