We are thrilled to share that the dual enrollment students lead by Prof. Zulma A. Cintron Alamo from Lodging Operations program Ana Durans and Aija Smith Chang-Yen), as well as Sophie Casey and Summer Hudson-Moffett from Culinary Arts program from Chef Tiffany Rogers; proudly represented Orange Technical College South Campus and Horizon High School Dual Enrollment program at the FCCLA National Leadership Conference in Seattle, WA. Also, for the first time in history of our organization, Angela Ratcliffe, Culinary Arts student from the adult program of Chef Felix Perez Cortes represented the post secondary level in these remarkable competitions. They competed respectively in the Instructional Video Design, Sustainability Challenge, Leadership and Teach or Train STAR Events categories and achieved a remarkable National Silver and Bronze medals and placed in the National Finalist and Top 3 in recognition of their outstanding performance.
The group also had the unique opportunity of touring the Renaissance Seattle by Marriott Bonvoy and shadow various hotel departments. Connie Muller, an event manager from the Groups and Sales department, guided the group behind the scenes, allowing them to explore different career paths and gain insight into the hotel's culture. The students found the experience incredibly enjoyable and gathered valuable information to help guide their future careers in the industry.
FCCLA members from across Florida gather to network with fellow members, attend leadership workshops, take part in Competitive Events, explore career pathways, and learn from industry experts.
Throughout the conference, both students and advisers will have the opportunity to participate in informative and interactive workshops. Workshops are curated by various sponsors and range from interactive food creation to college tips and tricks.
Conference highlights include four exciting and powerful General Sessions, Florida Proficiency and FCCLA STAR Events Competitions, Culinary Arts and Baking and Pastry Events, Student Interactive Workshops and Teacher Professional Development Workshops, and Exhibitor and Sponsor Showcase.
