Pastor Barrett Dodd
Barrett longs for people to thrive as born again, mature, and devoted followers of Jesus Christ, so that God would be glorified in us.
Knowing that God uses his Word to sanctify his people, Barrett devotes himself to preaching expository, Christ-centered sermons. He loves small group ministry and encouraging people in personal discipleship.
He received theological training from Covenant Theological Seminary (MDiv. 2018) and Missouri Baptist University (B.A. 2015).
Barrett and his wife, Lacey, are happily married, and they have two precious daughters.
After nearly three decades of faithful service in the U.S. Army, Michael and Sandy Thomas chose to settle in Sandy’s hometown of Pleasant Hill. Their guiding philosophy—“Blossoming where we are planted”—shines through in their commitment to serving the Lord and others. At First Baptist Church, they quickly became part of the family, leading Bible studies, caring for families, and supporting ministries with joy and humility.
Michael grew up in LaBelle, Missouri, graduating from Highland High School in 1978. He went on to earn a ThB from Hannibal-LaGrange University (1982), an MDiv from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (1986), and a Master of Leadership/Ethics from John Brown University (2002).
He served churches in Missouri and Iowa as both Associate Pastor and Pastor before receiving a direct commission as a First Lieutenant in the Iowa Army National Guard in 1988. In 1991, he entered active duty and faithfully served until retiring as a Colonel in 2016. His distinguished career included roles such as Senior Installation Chaplain at Fort Leonard Wood, Command Chaplain for First Army, and Plans/Operations Chaplain for V Corps and Multi-National Corps–Iraq. His awards include the Legion of Merit (with oak leaf cluster), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, and the Meritorious Service Medal (with four oak leaf clusters).
Today, Michael serves as Discipleship Pastor at First Baptist Church, Pleasant Hill, IL, continuing his lifelong mission of guiding others in faith and discipleship.
Michael and Sandy are blessed with two adult children: Ashley (Richard) Ulrich, of Jacksonville, IL, and Curtis (Audrey) Thomas of Pleasant Hill, IL. They delight in their four grandchildren, who bring joy and energy to their lives.
