Fawkes & Figures is a neutral civic-tech transparency application for exploring publicly available UK House of Commons MP expense information.
This Privacy Policy explains what information the app accesses, how that information is used, and the services involved in operating the app.
Fawkes & Figures displays publicly available information relating to Members of the UK House of Commons, including:
MP names
Constituencies
Political parties
Public profile photographs
Expense totals
Expense categories
Individual expense claim information where available
This information is sourced from publicly available IPSA records and UK Parliament profile information. It does not relate to the personal data of the person using the app.
Fawkes & Figures does not require users to create an account or provide their name, email address, telephone number, or postal address.
Users may enter a UK postcode to identify the relevant parliamentary constituency and MP for a selected financial year.
The postcode is transmitted to the Postcodes.io service to perform the constituency lookup. Fawkes & Figures does not use the postcode to determine the user’s precise GPS location and does not intentionally store postcode searches in the app’s database.
Users are not required to use postcode search and may instead browse or search for MPs directly.
Users may optionally select an image from their device to use as a publisher or media logo within a generated graphic.
The selected image is used only to create the graphic requested by the user. It is processed locally by the app and is not intentionally uploaded to the Fawkes & Figures backend.
Users can generate PNG and PDF files and choose to save or share those files.
Files are saved to a location selected or controlled by the user or are shared through an application selected by the user. Fawkes & Figures does not control how another application handles a file after the user chooses to share it.
The app may generate or store an installation identifier associated with the installed copy of Fawkes & Figures.
This identifier is used to:
Associate export purchases with the relevant app installation
Track remaining PNG or PDF export allowances
Restore a valid export allowance after the app is closed and reopened
Prevent an export allowance from being consumed when a save or share operation is cancelled
The identifier is not intended to identify the user by name.
Fawkes & Figures offers consumable in-app purchases for media graphic exports.
Purchases are processed by:
Apple App Store on iOS
Google Play on Android
Fawkes & Figures does not directly receive or store full payment-card details.
Apple or Google may process purchase information under their own privacy policies and payment terms.
Fawkes & Figures uses Supabase to store records needed to operate purchased export allowances.
These records may include:
App installation identifier
Store provider
Product identifier
Store transaction or purchase reference
Purchase date
Number of exports purchased
Number of exports used
Export allowance status
Technical information required to process and validate the entitlement
This information is used only to manage purchases, prevent incorrect allowance use, restore valid allowances, investigate technical problems, and protect the integrity of the purchase system.
Fawkes & Figures uses third-party services to provide its features.
These currently include:
Supabase, for database and backend services
Postcodes.io, for postcode and constituency lookup
Google Play, for Android distribution and purchases
Apple App Store, for iOS distribution and purchases
UK Parliament services, for public MP profile information
IPSA, as the source of public MP expense records
These organisations may process limited technical or transaction information in accordance with their own terms and privacy policies.
Fawkes & Figures does not currently include third-party advertising.
Fawkes & Figures does not currently use Firebase Analytics, Google Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics, Sentry, AppsFlyer, Mixpanel, or Amplitude.
If analytics, crash reporting, advertising, or additional data-processing services are added in the future, this Privacy Policy and the relevant app-store disclosures will be updated before those services are used in a released version.
Fawkes & Figures does not sell user data.
Information is shared with service providers only where needed to operate features requested by the user, such as postcode lookup, purchase processing, entitlement storage, saving, and sharing.
Information may also be disclosed where required by law or where reasonably necessary to protect the security and integrity of the app and its services.
Purchase and export entitlement records may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to:
Maintain and restore valid export allowances
Support transaction records
Prevent fraud or misuse
Investigate technical or payment disputes
Meet legal, accounting, or platform requirements
Temporary files created while generating an export may be removed automatically by the operating system or by the app after they are no longer required.
Users may request deletion of installation-related purchase or export records held directly by Fawkes & Figures.
A deletion request should include enough information to identify the relevant app installation or transaction. Users should not send payment-card information.
Some transaction records may need to be retained where required for legal, accounting, fraud-prevention, security, or app-store compliance purposes.
Contact details for privacy and deletion requests are provided below.
Fawkes & Figures is a general informational and civic-transparency app. It is not specifically directed at children and does not knowingly request personal information from children.
Reasonable technical and organisational measures are used to protect information processed through the app and its backend services.
However, no internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Fawkes & Figures is not a political campaigning tool and does not allege wrongdoing.
Expense claims can reflect legitimate parliamentary work. Figures should be reviewed in context.
