Design a journey builder where doctors can create above care journey to be applied to specific patients. You can refer some modern automation/workflow builders to get started. Think of as many clinical scenarios as possible. The ultimate web experience should demonstrate a UI where doctors can create such a care journey and assign it later for suitable patients.
Focus should be how to enable doctors to design a journey template. probably in Ul design tools like Figma.
Target users; Doctors, Age group : 35-40 years
Design Thinking Framework
I conducted research to get personal grasps of doctors' needs. I set aside all assumptions to obtain insights into the users' world by observing and consulting with users. This way I was able to understand users' experiences, motivations and problems. Time constraint being very close, I was still able to focus on primary research to get qualitative insights for the nature of this project.
After carrying out interviews I came up with a vivid persona of a representation of our target audience. This was an extremely valuable UX tool, allowing me to better understand the target audiences pain points and make design decisions accordingly to meet both business and user needs.
"I want to be able to keep up with my patient effectively, I know this can be done with technology"- Toyin Oyindamola
I understand creating an effective solution requires understanding the true problem and the person who is experiencing it. The exercise of creating this empathy map helped me consider things from the user’s perspective along with his or her goals and challenges.
After conducting user experience research I understood;
Doctors find it difficult keeping up with patients treatment after hospital visit.
Doctors find it frustrating getting random calls from patients that don't remember how to go about their treatment.
With so much to do doctors cannot easily balance work life and personal life.
A better understanding of the target audience led me into defining statements on best possible way I could come up with design solutions. I created a problem and goal statement and also defined possible care journey flows.
How can I design a web experience that effectively helps doctors follow up with patients by creating an automated care journey to assign to specific patients?
To create a web interface that is visually appealing with a simple and intuitive experience that would allow doctors to simply create personalised care journeys for patients, this would positively affect patients by following an automated care journey prepared by doctors. Effectiveness would be measured by the increase of people using and enjoying this experience.
Front desk books an appointment for a patient.
An automated confirmation email should be sent to patient immediately.
An automated app invite email is sent to patient to download app so that patient can be notified about appointment reminders etc.
If the app is not downloaded, an automated appointment reminder is sent to patient, days before and on day of appointment via a text message.
Once patient makes it to the appointment for a certain appointment type, schedule a follow-up - depending on care plan recommended by provider and based on prescription.
Patient tasks are created in the app e. g medications to be taken, any vitals needs to be measure etc.
Generate automated reminders for each task e. g measuring vitals. taking medications, if medication is not taken, alert the doctor via email or text.
Schedule an automated follow-up in next 2 weeks.
I focused on organising all information acquired from previous stages and ideated on the best possible task flow so as to have an overview of how users can start assigning a care journey and complete it effectively, as that's the main focus of this project.
A task flow was initially created to map out the best and simplest flow to create and assign a a care journey for patients.
Goal: Assign a care journey to specific patient(s)
After understanding users, defining ideas, and creating flows, I narrowed my prototype to the main focus of the project which is to create a UI where doctors can create such a care journey and assign it later for suitable patients. The goal was to create a visualisation of what the final product would look like to carry out tests and make iterations, saving the company both time and money.
After sketching on paper I turned my ideas into high fidelity screens using Figma, then I also used figma tool to create a prototype to validate my solutions.
Doctors make use of their WorkID's and password to sign into their dashboard
I designed a clean and simple dashboard with the application of Aesthetic-Usability Effect principle. I ensured all required information would be easily accessible on the dashboard.
I designed the care journeys screens to cater for as many scenarios as possible.
Recently created journeys
Users are able to select from already created journeys depending on the diseases selected.
Select disease
Users are able to select from already created journeys depending on the diseases selected.
Create new
A blank canvas with editable widgets for users to easily create new care journeys.
View care journey
Already created care journeys can be viewed and edited.
Select Patient Screens
I designed screens in such away that it allow doctors assign specific care journeys to only specific related patients. Here doctors can only assign diabetic care journeys to only diabetic related patients.
Select patients
Doctors are allowed to select from already diabetic related patients to avoid confusion and to enable simplicity for a better experience.
Selected Care Journey
Doctors can also select from as many patients at once to aid the need of assigning care journeys to more patients
Confirmation
Doctors would make a confirmation before fully assigning
Assigned successfully
A message pops-up to inform the doctor of care journey being assigned successfully
My ultimate goal is to create an end to end experience from doctors to patients. Here I added the mobile screens of patients to display clearly how patients keep up with their care journey with in-app reminders.
For a project that necessitated that we keep things moving quickly, coming up with the best solution for users was key to our success. Even though, as a designer, I bemoaned taking away time from my usual meticulous design phase, sometimes being flexible is more important than thorough.
I conducted a moderated usability test with 10 professionals on the prototype to get in straight up insights on from users. Users enjoyed using the product because it had a clean look and feel, although I had to make iterations based on user feedback.
20% of users found it uncomfortable differentiating between the different widgets used in building care journeys.
I made use of visual cues of colour to interpret the action of each of the widgets
I remained the purple colour for "Task", Blue for "Time", Orange for "Events". With this iteration 100% of users found it easy to differente between the widgets
Thanks for watching, The End :)
