I have observed that renaming a file (like a cell view name/schematic) takes so much time on Virtuoso takes so much time even if I deselect Update Instances option. On the other hand, if I copy the view and then delete the old view it's really fast. Is this a bug or there is some specific reason behind it? It's frustrating sometimes because I have things running in the background and I can't open them when virtuoso gets stuck due to renaming.

Heard that virtuoso -nograph option would work but it looks like I need to setup some unix environment variables to make that command work. Not sure what environment variable should I be adding in .kschrc files. Can anyone help?

I don't see why you should need to set up any UNIX environment variables to run "virtuoso -nograph". Essentially what you are trying to do could be done with "virtuoso -nograph -restore code.il". Potentially you could use the lighter "dbAccess" (e.g. dbAccess -load code.il).

The most likely explanation is that you're running the "virtuoso -nograph" session in the wrong working directory, and you don't have permission to create the library in that directory - for the first call. For the second one, the library presumably is not in the cds.lib in that directory.

The only way I can get this is if I put "-nograph" on a separate line. Maybe you have a wrapper script around virtuoso so what you're running is not actually the virtuoso from the Cadence installation?

I have a colleague who keeps having issues with virtuoso unexpectedly crashing whenever she tries to open a layout in either read or edit mode. Some cells are fine, but there are some that crash every single time, even tried to jump to a different server or create a new workarea. I've tried to have her copy the layout in question but the crashing still happens. Also, it doesn't matter what version of Virtuoso we use, the result is always the same.

Hi Andrew, thanks for the command. I tried this running IC version 6.1.6, 6.1.7 and 6.1.8 Just before the crash we get a SIGSEV error and cadence closes, then we get a pop-up asking us to view the report. How do I repair any corruption? I ran the scan and I get numerous ERROR SCAN-211 or 93 errors on the cells that are giving us problems:

I'm coming back to this. The error is popping up again and this time when I run oaScan, I get the following error and the repair also terminates with a SIGSEGV error just as cadence outputs when it crashes...

Yes, I figured that's what happened since I know it wasn't "offensive". It's weird, I deleted the cell causing that issue and ran oaScan again and it completed without the SIGSEGV error. The issue now is when my coworkers makes a few edits and goes to save, cadence crashes yet again. She can open it back up just fine and make more edits, the issue is the crash every time she goes to save it. She's working remotely through VPN so not sure if that is somehow contributing to the problem because in her words, this doesn't happen when she works from her office.

You have the base release of IC618 there (and the oaScan that comes with it) - this is 18 months old. I'd suggest first starting by getting IC618 ISR10 installed (the latest version on downloads.cadence.com) and seeing whether oaScan from that build works - you may need to use that subversion too for editing if it fixes the underlying data corruption problem.

I see that its much easyer to use the Z_params because our Z_G=Z_L=50 ohms and getting z11 z22 z12 z21 are straight forward from cadence .So if i want to go that way of using Z_params what is zd shown the circle plot result bellow?

The window above is called the Command Interpreter Window (CIW) This window representsthe Design Framework II environment, and provides access to Cadence through its menus, orits input line using SKILL commands. The CIW window is the control window for the cadencesoftware,

I am having difficulty with the connectivity virtuoso XL I copied half a layout and mirrored it and deleted the extra instances but this unfortunately changed the instance numbers on the mirrored portion of the circuit.

I don't really know what you're talking about, I'm sorry for not

helping. I wanted to add one more comment though.

When you create a symbol with cadence, it comes with a default

rectangular shape but you can redraw it if you want. Many designers

are customizing the symbol view by drawing the 'Functional' blocks

that are represented by the symbol. This helps reading from the Top.

Is what you're talking about ?Anyway, since you've seen that designer doing it, It's may be worth

asking him ;-) isn't it ?I agree with Stphane , I don't see any interest in instantiation a
