A: No, this is not officially made by Forest & Bird, but the crappy design probably would have given it away anyways.
Q: Why does this exist?
A: I initially thought about this happening back in 2021 instead of the bat being in Bird of the Year, but Forest & Bird didn't do it. So, I've decided to take matters into my own hands and make this competition to raise awareness of other native New Zealand animals and put the bat in its place.
Q: Why aren't there many non-birds on this list?
A: I've personally picked most of these animals, which include famous, interesting and unique animals. I've also included some birds that were suggested by others, so if you personally want an animal included here, email Team Paradise Shelduck.
Q: What else can I do to help these non-birds?
A: I'd recommend getting involved with conservation programs and volunteer to do things such as controlling predators, as well as donating to Forest & Bird. Most of the things you can do to help birds also help other native animals, so it might just help to start there.
Q: Can I campaign for a non-bird?
A: I don't plan on adding official campaigners this year, but you can still make unofficial campaign pages on your preferred social media website if you want.
