I was having no issue with my MacAir laptop but only on my iMac Desktop that this install TV Helper tool pop up was coming up. I followed your suggestion but I still have the window pop-up appearing to install new helper tool. The TV application does not start on my Desktop, until I enter the password twice or hit cancel twice. This is oaky if I am sitting with both computers next to one another but remotely, I am not them so I cannot access my Desktop because the TV app is not running.

A dialog box with "Teamviewer is trying to install a helper tool" keeps appearing on my remote mac. Entering an admin id and password resolves the issue if you are in front of the computer, but it stops you from accessing the computer remotely.

"TeamViewer is trying to install a new helper too" makes the app quit after password validation, I have tried the different solutions found on the web but mentioning Sierra, but it still quits... I am on big sur mac

I am trying to help a friend on his Macbook Pro remotely and had him download the latest version of Teamviewer. But when he launches the Teamview App after installing, he gets a pop up box saying that "Teamviewer is trying to install a helper tool." Enter your password to allow this.

What happening on my computer was that the launch daemon for the helper tool was not properly started. As a result, a connect socket was not created, Origin app failed to establish connection with the helper tool and therefore fell into the loop of installing of that tool. So to fix it I had to manually start the daemon.

Every time I restart my computer, it tries to "add a new helper tool". For instance I have to reinstall shell commands in Atom on every restart, and it prompts with the "An update is ready to install." But I see this same issue with other programs too.

As more and more people work from home, the need for remote control tool has increased. TeamViewer is one of the best remote control software for macOS. Although it can help you remotely control your desktop and share files, it also has some drawbacks that force people to uninstall it from Mac, such as slow file sharing, insecure issues, annoying pop-ups, pricey plans, etc.

An adversary may use legitimate desktop support and remote access software to establish an interactive command and control channel to target systems within networks. These services, such as VNC, Team Viewer, AnyDesk, ScreenConnect, LogMein, AmmyyAdmin, and other remote monitoring and management (RMM) tools, are commonly used as legitimate technical support software and may be allowed by application control within a target environment.[1][2][3]

If you're already using a device management platform, such as Jamf or Kandji, then you'll want to check to see what remote access tools are available to you. Since these platforms are designed to remotely push software and scripts to Macs, they can usually let you take control of another computer as well. As you're pushing out software updates and patches, you'll find this tool helpful to check on the status of those updates.

Splashtop is truly cross-platform in that you can use it not only on macOS and Windows but also Google Android, iOS, and iPadOS. And if you're concerned about all of your computers having remote access enabled for security reasons, Splashtop comes in different versions with varying controls. For instance, you can go with a Business Access plan for your users to be able to remote into a workstation at the office. Or you can go with the SOS plan, which would give your IT team unattended remote access to troubleshoot and push software. Oh yeah, that's another thing about Splashtop, it can also double as a device and software management tool.

I would not recommend the rpms for two reasons. One, it installs a system daemon which runs as root. If you are paranoid, you do not want this. Of course, if you are really paranoid, you would not even touch teamviewer because it is a binary from an untrusted source. Anyway, just download the tar.gz or tar.xz and unpack that to ~/bin/teamviewer13 and run it from there. You may have to install some obscure 32-bit dependencies via zypper to make teamviewer run. Second reason for not using the rpm is simply that you do not want to update. Teamviewer can get very pecky when it comes to version mismatches. Sometimes you have to match the version of the remote partner. Who, in turn, might not have the latest version but something as old as 7 or 8. I have all version starting from 7 in my local bin directory.

There is no need to run anything as root with the tar package. Just unpack it and try to run the included teamviewer executable. It may hit some missing dependencies which you then install via zypper. There is only a handful of them and it is fairly easy to figure out.

I think the version mismatch depends on which side initiates the connection, ie requests remote assistance. I really cannot remember which one can be old while the other needs to be updated. Just try and fetch the right version when you need it. The good news is, when you managed to get one teamviewer version running, all of them will work. So, two steps: get the current version running without root privs, install required libs via zypper, then afterwards get older versions as you go.

The checklibs function is just a helper. It may tell you about missing libs but you would still need to find the actual package name. Anyway, IIRC, you need the 32-bit versions of old libpng, old libjpeg, and a few xorg libs. Let me see if I can spot them by name in the package list

Do not quote me one these but I think they were the ones I installed with zypper. The png/jpeg libs are especially nasty as teamviewer will happily start without them but then there will be icons and buttons missing in the app.

1: Download rpm from the official website.

2: Install -qtgraphicaleffects Without subscribing to the repository for doubts that break some other package at the time of updating.

3: Install =KDE%3AQt5&package=libqt5-qtquickcontrols

Without subscribing to the repository for doubts that break some other package at the time of updating.

4: Install rpm for teamviewer with command sudo rpm -i -nodeps *.rpm

5: Open the terminal and sudo systemctl enable teamviewer.service && sudo systemctl start teamviewer.service.

I love me a good screen-sharing tool, especially one that offers a remote-control option for remote tech support. (Doesn't matter if you're the helper or the helpee -- it's a million times easier than trying to troubleshoot over the phone.)

An adversary may attempt to trick the user into downloading teamviewer and using this to maintain access to the machine. Download of TeamViewer installer will be at the destination location when sucessfully executed.

Adversaries frequently rename binaries, as shown above, in an effort to evade overly specific detections. However, these binaries often depend on dynamic link libraries (DLL) that cannot be renamed, which make for useful indicators of the tool being abused. Analysts can search for the utility in question on a site like VirusTotal to get a list of associated DLLs the utility loads at run time, and these module loads may be reliable indicators that the utility is being used, even if it has been renamed and is running from an unusual path.

Anydesk markets itself as a cross-platform, fast, and secure remote desktop application capable of performing reliably under bandwidth constrained network connections. Due to its simplicity, Anydesk has recently become a de facto RMM tool used by attackers due to its lightweight footprint and ease of use for moving laterally.

Anydesk is a popular tool for controlling victim machines and deploying ransomware payloads, more commonly seen with the following ransomware families: Blackheart, Sodinokibi/REvil, Netwalker, and Darkside. Attackers will typically drop instances of Anydesk to conspicuous paths not normally observed. Detecting abnormal Anydesk behavior can be fairly simple in most instances, since it has fairly predictable behavior when executed.

We hope this blog has been helpful in demystifying some aspects of detecting abnormal usage of commonly abused RMM tools. Along with NetSupport, Remote Utilities, ScreenConnect, and Anydesk, we have observed ransomware operators using the following additional RMM tools over the years:

Have you tried this built-in tool and it failed, or what happened? If I recall, in later OS versions, this functionality merged into Messages, but in El Capitan you could access a Mac directly using the Screen Sharing app.

Although the credential helper is a supported method for connecting to CodeCommit using federated access, an identity provider, or temporary credentials, the recommended method is to install and use the git-remote-codecommit utility. For more information, see Setup steps for HTTPS connections to AWS CodeCommit with git-remote-codecommit.

Problem: When you try to run the git config command to configure the credential helper to communicate with a CodeCommit repository, you see an error that there are too few arguments, or a usage prompt suggesting Git config commands and syntax.

Possible fixes: Configure your AWS profile or make sure the profile you are using is the one you configured for working with CodeCommit. For more information about setting up, see Setup steps for HTTPS connections to AWS CodeCommit repositories on Linux, macOS, or Unix with the AWS CLI credential helper or Setup steps for HTTPS connections to AWS CodeCommit repositories on Windows with the AWS CLI credential helper.
