Reading Romans chapter 5 again today makes me see our God in another dimension. Indeed, God is Love; there can never be another accurate and demonstrative way to describe our God. Thinking about it though, maybe another description of the magnanimousity that MIGHT come close to explaining who God is could be Him introducing Himself to Moses as I AM WHO I AM! And don't forget, if you read that last sentence carefully, I said "might come close," of which I believe it can never be compared to that revelation of "God is Love."
In His prodigal demonstrative capacity, God gave man the law so that man can see how broken, helpless and hopeless he is and to give mankind recognize and accept his inability to keep, meet, satisfy, and fulfill the mandate of the law (Rom 5:20). Humanities however ran off, tirelessly working to prove himself right and show to God that he has the ability to fulfill the mandate of the law. But with the passage of time, man came to realize his inability, but instead of deferring back to God for mercy and grace for help, humanity allowed their imperfections, unworthiness, and brokenness to drive them away from God.
Wow! How shameful this can be, and how heartbroken š I can imagine God is on behalf of man. God, recognizing the imperfections, inability and irresponsibility of humanity, still decided to step into the scene to save mankind by sacrificing and giving up all that He is, all that He has, and all that He can do.
This is too much for my small mind to comprehend. The only way to come to terms with this is to choose to believe in that act of sacrifice and understand it by faith (Ephesians 3:18 &19; 1 John 4:8 &16).Ā
Based on this premise of my faith in this act of God, I know this can only happen because of one and only one thing, the Prodigy LOVE OF GOD. The Oxford dictionary defined Prodigal as spending money or using resources freely and recklessly; wastefully extravagant. This is an image of what I can see God doing for you and me just to have us to Himself. How reckless can that be?
I understand now why some people find it hard to accept this love, because I think they don't deserve that kind of prodigal, demonstrative and excessive love. I'm still wowed every time the thought of the love of God crosses my mind.
Let NO human on this earth claim that he can demonstrate the love of God the way God can. Yes, we have the ability, but I doubt we can ever demonstrate that kind of love the way God does.
This love is too much, the prodigy love of the father.
Our biblical hope is built and anchored ā on the prodigal, unmerited, unconditional, and excess love of God.
This is why our hope or expectations cannot be cut short. This is the reason we are guaranteed that holding on to that hope, no matter the situation or circumstances, will always lead to thanksgiving. That hope never disappoints because it's built on the love of God for us. Remember, love never fails, because God cannot fail.
If you really want to understand what biblical hope means, then you have to take your time to catch the revelation of the love of God and the motivation behind His love.
What is the motive of the prodigy's love of God?
What is/are those things that drive God to a place of being committed to our cause? What is the motivation behind the prodigal, unmerited, unconditional, and excess love of God? The motivation for God's love is His nature. That is who He is, and He cannot change nor deny Himself (Romans 3:4; 2 Timothy 2:13; Hebrews 6:18).
I can firmly attest that mankind is not used to this kind of love. That someone is absolutely committed to doing you good, irrespective of what you do or do not do. Some people, however, act as though they are smarter than God, trying to take the prodigal, unmerited, unconditional, and excess love of God for granted.
If you choose to act smarter than God by living your own life recklessly, carelessly and uncontrollably by doing the wrong thing or by not doing the right things, then I can safely and boldly say that you have not by faith understood and believed that love that God has towards you. If you do, menh, you will be the most well-behaved, responsible, and prodigy human being on earth. And I promised you that! Think about these things, and may the good Lord give you understanding.
