Under the Mask is a portrayal of the people beneath their superhero personas. Superheroes must experience incredible excitement fighting evil or saving people in need. As depicted in several superhero stories, they also share universal experiences of fear and struggle. This work aims to highlight the epic qualities of many superheroes as well as the everyday experiences that connect us all.
Written for Wind Ensemble - Premiered by the Meadows Wind Ensemble in April of 2024
Silver Summit is about a deeply special moment in Colorado. After exploring Denver and hiking near Boulder, Mason, my partner of five years, got down on one knee and asked to spend the rest of his life with me. With overwhelming love and tears, I responded “yes of course!” and he slid the two-toned silver ring on my finger. This work depicts my sweet memories of Denver in the prime of fall surrounded by the vast and rocky landscape. The rustic theme is overlaid with shimmering textures and includes elements of Mason’s musical taste.
Written for Clarinet Quartet - Premiered by clarinetists at Southern Methodist University
Dichotomy is about complicated emotions during a big change in my life. It embodies a mental dance between potential positive and negative narratives of my future. There are multiple instances of two unrelated musical devices such as harmony and texture that have an odd oscillating nature. In some ways, I was inspired by clarinet excerpts from Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf that depict a moody and frantic cat.

Written for Chamber Winds - Premiered by Arkansas Harmonie in May of 2022
Ventus, meaning wind in latin, is inspired by the powerful meteorological forces that affect weather on Earth. This chamber winds work uses dovetailing between pairs of players to achieve swirling and sweeping effects that describe calm breezes to unimaginably vast swaths of atmospheric gales. Instrumentation includes the standard chamber winds set as well as bass clarinet and Bb contra bass clarinet to fill out the low harmony.
