Nonfiction: An essay about complex grief and emotion shown by unexpected behaviors .
Grief is not just an emotion people experience after loss. Iit is a force that changes identities, relationships, and the way people understand themselves, showing that healing comes with confronting pain instead of ignoring it. Do you believe an emotion could consume your life and probably some else's too due to your selfish needs?
The overall Biography of X portrays grief as more than sadness over death. Throughout Lucca's discoveries the novel shows how grief can come from losing someone questioning your identity and realizing that the truth about a loved one may never be fully known.
Grief is a heavy emotion people feel when they lose someone or are going through a hard time. “Many people have a very hard time getting through this emotion. Grief is a major theme in Biography of x because it shows how loss can change a person's identity and the way they see the world. After x death lucca struggled to understand who her wife really was. As she uncovers” secrets about x past she experiences grief not only because of the loss itself but also because of the realization that she never fully knew the person she loved.`
Lucca's grief really shows through when she reflected on the way x was able to hide her true identity. Lucca States “I was riding my book about how well x could pretend”(221). “It made me realize what I was doing and what has my life come to”(221) . This quote shows that Lucca's grief becomes deeper as she learns more about x ' deception. She begins to question her own wife and the choices she made which adds another layer to her sorrow.
Another moment that highlights grief occurs when lucca hears a recording and describes it by saying” the voice was just so bizarre so uncanny”(222). and the voice feels strange and unfamiliar reminding Lucca that there are still parts of X that remain unknown to her. This creates feelings of confusion and sadness because the person she thought she knew seems to be slipping further away.
Lucca's grief is also shown when she attends a gathering where” most people knew x as Cassandra Edwards”(224). This experience forced Lucca to confront different versions of x past and x life being surrounded by people connected to excess hidden past makes lucca feel isolated and reminds her of everything she has lost.
In order to move on and grow, people have to go through emotions . Grief is a big emotion and it affects people in many different ways. As we see the way x handled her past she documented everything “I came across the human subject by accident while I was walking” (331). Lucca wasn't aware that she was doing this; this later brought on obsession and con fusion upon lucca . lucca wanted to find out why x did what she did and why she had an art gallery about her past lucca got obsessive over this and went out of her way to interview those people that x had a past with. Lucca initially went into this looking for clarity and answers but then she ended up obsessing over this past life.
As Lucca learns more about X past life she begins to lose sight of her own. The more answers she finds the more questions she has which makes it difficult for her to move forward. This demonstrates how grief can cause someone to become stuck in the past instead of focusing on the present. Lucca's struggles show that grief is not always sadness, sometimes it appears as confusing obsession and a need of closure. Her journey reveals that healing cannot happen until a person accepts their loss and begins to let go of what they cannot change. We see that lucca never really got over this feeling x. These signs that Lucca is going through many of us go through. We all have different ways to cope with them ,we see that lucca chose to cope with interviewing x past lead her into a deeper spiral , potentially leading lucca to have grief disorder (“a mental health condition where an individual's emotional response to the death of a loved one becomes intensely persistent and severely disrupts daily functioning well beyond typical grieving period”) we currently see Lucca going through this faze multiple times as she keeps finding this out about X , “Other signs of complicated grief may include having overwhelmingly negative emotions, feeling preoccupied with the person who died or the circumstances of the death, and being unable to find meaning or a purpose in life.”
In article Understanding grief How we mourn Heal and move forward after loss by deconstructing stigma, by Elisabeth Kubler-ross the idea of Which explains that “normal grieving is messy and varies from day to day and person to person this grieving individual may show a vast range of emotion and short periods of time and they may feel those emotions strongly for months or even years” This evidence connects to Lucas experience because her emotions consistently change as she uncovers new information about x's death instead of moving on every Discovery brings back her pain and confusion causing her to become even more obsessed with finding answers. Her behavior shows that grief does not always follow straight paths and people can struggle with loss for a long time before they begin to heal. This pattern shows how briefly can change a person's behavior and cause them to cope in unhealthy ways. Instead of allowing herself to process the loss Lucca became fixated on finding answers and answering people connected to x . Her need for foreclosure prevents her from focusing on the present and keeps reopening emotional wounds. The article Understanding grief, how we mourn, heal and move forward after loss, supports this idea by explaining that “normal griefing is messy” Unfortunately society often expects people to move on quickly after experiencing a loss making those who continue to struggle feel misunderstood or judged. Lucca’s actions may seem irrational to others but they reflect the complicated emotions that many grieving people experience. By trying to suppress her pain throughout her constant search for answers instead of accepting the reality of her death she delays her own healing process. The story suggests that while suppressing grief may seem easier at first, true recovery only begins when a person acknowledges their emotion and learns to live with their loss rather than trying to escape it.
Throughout the middle section of Biography of x As the story progresses throughout the middle of the novel grief begins to affect more than just Lucas emotions it changes her sense of identity. After spending so many years defining herself through her relationship with ex she struggles to figure out who she is without her. Every new revelation about X forces Luca to question whether she ever truly knew the person she loved, making her feel even more isolated and uncertain instead of allowing herself time to mourn and become emotionally consumed by the hidden parts of X past , causing her own needs and well-being to fade into the background. This demonstrates that grief can leave people feeling lost especially when the person they have lost played a major role in shaping their life. Lucca's Journey Biography of x shows that healing is not only about coping with death but also about rebuilding one's identity after experiencing a devastating loss. Even though Luca is aware that access no longer with her she doesn't want to let go of the idea that x Is no longer with her we can see that (188) “This is not to say she did not love me only that we loved each other at different rates with different needs” Here we can pick up on the fact that Lucca is in denial and what she had for X wasn't real on her part. When Lucca says” this is not to say she did not love me only that we loved each other at different rates” Lucca's love was consistent and deeply dependent on X she built much of her identity around their relationship and relied heavily on x -emotionally. X loved Luca too but in a different way X remained independent, kept secrets and devoted much of herself to her art and personal ambition instead of sharing everything with Lucca. “ at different rates” suggests that their emotional investment wasn't equal. may have loved X more intensely or needed her more than they needed her. Looking back after x's death Lucca realized that while their love was real it was never experienced in exactly the same way by both of them .This connects to Lucas morning because not only did Lucca lose her wife but she lost a person around whom she had built her life around. making it hard for her to move on because at the same time each day comes with more secrets. In this article by dirfit wood says .
“Grief, they say, is love with no place to go, a sentiment that illustrates the pain people experience when experiencing a loss” As we discussed already in this essay this is the exact situation that look like is currently struggling in all this love she has for X with nowhere to put it she feels guilty if she gives her love to x but she also feels guilty if she doesn't. When Lucca gives her love to x she feels like she isn't receiving enough back and when she doesn't give her love to x she fears someone else will or x will relapse back into her past and forget about who lucca which worries her in her everyday life every breath slowly consuming her. On (364) of Biography of x “No matter how much I want her memory Gone Gone completely she will not leave me alone” Here we start to see how Lucca is kind of contradicting her words at first she's all up on X and wanting X very close to her and now she has a change of heart saying she doesn't want anything to do with X and that she wants to erase her memory and all memories that she has with x.
Ultimately the biography of x and all these articles demonstrate that grief is not a simple emotion but a powerful force that can reshape a person's thoughts, behaviors and identity. Throughout Lucca's Journey the novel reveals how loss can lead and help the coping mechanisms of obsessive behavior and inability to separate oneself from the past. It also changes society's expectations that people should heal quickly, showing instead that grief is unpredictable and deeply personal. By struggling to accept x death and the secrets she uncovers Lucca learns that suppressing pain and prolonging suffering Wild acknowledge and accepting grief is the first step towards healing her experience reinforces the idea that moving forward does not mean forgetting the person who was lost about finding a way to live with that loss and rebuilding life to continue your journey . https://deconstructingstigma.org/guides/grief https://driftwoodrecovery.com/blog/the-impact-of-grief-on-mental-health

Common ways people go through this emotion is when someone close to them dies. While many people have different ways to cope the most common and recommended way is to speak up and seek help.

The author explains the emotional pain and loneliness people may experience while being incarcerated. The article also shows how important it is for individuals to express their emotions instead of hiding them. Lecompte helps readers understand that crying is a normal human response to difficult situations and emotional stress. This article is useful because it gives insight into how grief and emotional struggles can impact people even in places like prison. I will use this source to further explain the further precision that comes with it.
In the book there are many different ways the characters deal with grief. In The Biography of x by Catherine Lacey, C.M lucca one of the characters loses her wife x , background on x. X is very passionate about her art and uses it in different ways . She also escaped a place called the southern territory, which marked her leading her to hide her true self from the world and put on a fake “persona” with everyone she met. Lucca recently found out about this and went into a spiral ,causing a semi identity crisis that led the emotional grief to come in this emotion led lucca to do many different things such as interviewing people from x past life. As we could see, grief is a very strong controllive emotion.
These articles and the book have changed my perception of grief in ways I didn't know existed . In the article “understanding grief how we mourn ,heal and move forward and after loss” Elisabeth goes on to explain the different types of grief she mentions that if one was to be in a very vulnerable place and dealing with this emotion and not seeking help they would be met with grief disorder at the front door. Grief disorder is when one is going through a hard time, especially a loss and doesn't know how to deal with their emotions effectively. Bringing sadness, anger, depression, etc. This article is trustworthy because it has ways to stop griefing and ways you could seek help if you don't know what to do in this certain situation.
I see myself using all these different sources to get the point across. The point is that grief could be something healthy until you make it unhealthy. It's normal to grieve over a lost one or to feel sad. The best thing you could do in that moment is express your emotions in a healthy way such as crying, talking to someone, socializing etc. what not to do is avoid help, not eat and isolate yourself. Some people may say that grieving isn't healthy at all. “Grief doesn’t just affect mental health. It can also have a profound effect on someone’s physical health as well their mental health”.Therefore some just say move on, what i say is hiding the way you feel won't change what already happened. Overall what I will prove in my paper is that there's healthy ways to deal with grief . health as well” https://driftwoodrecovery.com/blog/the-impact-of-grief-on-mental-health https://deconstructingstigma.org/guides/grief
