PRESS

  • Invisible Oranges (USA)
"A singular, unbreakable vision of crystallized misery."

  • The Obelisk (USA)
""An air of cerebral violence worked into the material that’s brutal in concept and patient in execution [...] Taking cues from vocally the most biting moments of The Body and incorporating a bit of ritualism from European post-metal touchstones Amenra"

  • Metal Hammer Germany
    "
This Dutch Doom trio creates acoustic hellscapes in which the listener inevitably has to get lost"

  • Everything is Noise (USA),
“Farer consumes you on a primal journey in which they wield an array of clangorous weapons to drag you down into their monochrome hell."

  • Antichrist-Magazine (Ukraine)
"Truly remarkable and exceptional in its honesty and willingness to dig up the most grim and filthy issues to the surface [
...] Their music is similar to a contemporary art concept, it’s not for everyone, and it demands all the attention to grasp the very core of the creation, but if there is a connection between the observer and the piece of art, then the miracle happens."

  • Wo)))lves In The Dro)))ne Doom (UK)
"There is a brutality to it's slow tempo, a savageness to it's wall of sound and a feverish intensity to it's atmosphere. [...] What you will find is the sound of doom and sludge metal taken to an extreme which few bands reach with as much skill as Farer have."

BIOGRAPHY

Dutch doom/noise trio Farer create an imposing discord of severe, caustic bass textures, harrowing vocals and winding drums. The band, featuring members of Ortega, was originally founded as MENHIR in 2013, but chose Farer as their new moniker mid 2019, after spending two and a half years of writing and recording their debut record Monad. By taking time to further explore the possibilities of being a band with two bass players and the absence of a guitar, the record exhibits the bands evolution into a new entity thoroughly. Meaning, carefully crafted, drawn-out, oppressive and compelling songs.

'Monad' is derived from the ancient greek word 'Monas' and means singularity. it is a point in which all physical laws are indistinguishable from one another and where space and time merge and cease to have any independent meaning. In cosmogony it is the most primal aspect of god. For the band the word levitates somewhere between divinity and the Big Bang.

With their debut, Farer made a committed and captivating testament to suffering. Heavy grinding riffs and deep pulsating rhythms; a restless stirring. Amidst all these layers you can hear the voice as a primal scream – the shock of being. The dissonance of forces vying for existence and the harmony of lightless oblivion. An agonising story of something or somebody coming in contact with the singularity Monad and thus creating an incomprehensible cycle of violent creation and destruction. Out of nothing, nothing becomes.

Monad was first released on 20 November 2020 on CD through Aesthetic Death and Cassette via Tartarus records. The release was accompanied by a livestream of the band playing the Monad in its entirety. In the months after it’s release the record received wide praise and recognition throughout. For instance, the celebrated metal blog Invisible Oranges called the record ‘a singular unbreakable vision of crystallised misery’. It was evident that the record was there to stay. But with the inability of touring, due to the pandemic, and the cultural vacuum as an inevitable result, the band found that it’s story wasn't really finished. It had not run its course. Ergo six months after its initial release, with the world slowly opening up, Farer is re-releasing Monad, this time on vinyl. A collaboration with Tartarus record, resulting in a white and black marbled double LP housed in a heavy gatefold, showcasing Niels Verwijk his gripping, original album artwork brilliantly.

"Farer deliver on every front. So much so, that it’s regrettable that it’s only 4 tracks long. Even if each one is an epic. "

  • Ninehertz (UK)
    "
[...] the dense, dark and heads-down concentration of Monad is one of those deep, black holes you enter into and have to claw your way back out of "

  • Luminous Dash (BE)
"With two bass players, a drummer, wordless screams and the absence of guitar, you can expect a distinct sound - captivating in turmoil"

  • Never Mind the Hype (NL)
"A soundtrack for human suffering formed into a fiery amalgam of gruesome riffs, screams and threateningly constructive drums."
