My Priorities & Solutions for Ward 17
1. 🚦 Safer Streets, Sidewalks & Crosswalks
The Problem:
Potholes, unsafe crossings, poor sidewalks, and traffic-safety concerns affect residents every day.
My Solutions:
* Create a Ward-level Road & Sidewalk Reporting Portal where residents can report and track issues.
* Conduct regular safety reviews of high-risk intersections and crossings.
* Work with Ottawa Police, traffic professionals, and City staff on traffic-management concerns.
* Keep residents informed from the time an issue is reported through to its resolution.
⸻
2. 🏠 Affordable Housing & Rent
The Problem:
Families, seniors, and young people are facing increasing pressure from housing and rental costs.
My Solutions:
* Prioritize City-owned land for affordable and non-market housing where appropriate.
* Advocate for stronger affordable-housing targets in new developments.
* Protect existing affordable rental housing.
* Make it easier for residents to navigate housing applications, available programs, and crisis-support resources.
⸻
3. 🌳 Better Parks & Recreation
The Problem:
Growing communities need better recreational facilities, green spaces, and accessible community amenities.
My Solutions:
* Conduct a public needs assessment of Ward 17 parks and recreation facilities.
* Identify and prioritize opportunities for community gardens, dog parks, play spaces, and other recreational amenities.
* Improve maintenance of existing parks and facilities.
* Use direct resident feedback to help establish capital-planning priorities.
⸻
4. 🚌 Better Transit
The Problem:
Residents need reliable, accessible, and convenient public transportation.
My Solutions:
* Review transit-service gaps in underserved areas of Ward 17.
* Advocate with OC Transpo for better route frequency, connections, and coverage.
* Explore free transit for children and youth under 18.
* Explore free off-peak transit for seniors 65+.
* Advocate for measurable service improvements and transparent reporting back to residents.
⸻
5. 👵👧 Youth & Seniors
The Problem:
Young people and seniors need accessible programs, opportunities, transportation, and community support.
My Solutions:
* Promote life-skills and crisis-navigation education for youth.
* Support accessible recreation, transportation, and community programming for seniors.
* Build partnerships with local community organizations.
* Establish regular opportunities for youth and seniors to provide input on community priorities.
⸻
6. 🧹 Cleaner & Better-Maintained Communities
The Problem:
Garbage, potholes, damaged infrastructure, and neglected public spaces reduce the quality of our neighbourhoods.
My Solutions:
* Advocate for one simple City reporting system with tracking numbers.
* Establish clear and transparent response timelines for reported issues.
* Identify recurring problems and promote preventative maintenance.
* Provide a Ward-level maintenance dashboard or report showing: Reported → In Progress → Completed.
⸻
7. 💰 Responsible Spending & Transparency
The Problem:
Residents pay taxes, but they deserve clearer information about where their money goes and what results it produces.
My Solutions:
* Provide plain-language spending summaries for major Ward 17 projects.
* Promote “Where Your Tax Dollars Go” reporting.
* Clearly communicate project costs, timelines, and progress.
* Regularly publish “What We Heard / What We Did” reports.
⸻
8. 🗣️ A Community That Is Heard
The Problem:
Residents can feel that there is a gap between consultation and meaningful action.
My Solutions:
* Hold regular Ward 17 community meetings.
* Provide both online and in-person opportunities for feedback.
* Track residents’ concerns by category and follow up on outstanding issues.
* For major issues, clearly communicate: What residents asked → What the City did → What remains to be done.

My Commitment to Ward 17
I don’t want to just tell you what is wrong.
I want to tell you what I will do about it.
Better Parks. Better Facilities. Better Leadership.
A practical plan. A stronger Ward 17.
