Health-Careers Exploration Summer Institute (HESI)

This is an intensive 3-week summer internship program in which you will gain exposure to healthcare careers in the hospital by rotating through a different hospital department each day. Some of these departments include physical therapy, nursing floors, medical laboratory, endoscopy, radiology, pharmacy, catheterization lab, respiratory therapy, infection control, and surgical. Students also develop professional workplace skills and familiarize themselves with medical case studies. Limited spots are available for Shasta, Tehama, and Trinity County students.

Requirements:

Medical Pathway student

Minimum 16 yrs. old

Minimum 3.0 GPA

"C" or better in all health pathway courses

How Do I Apply?

Use this--> Check list to make sure you complete all requirements

  1. Check the dates to make sure you will be available, and the requirements to ensure that you qualify to participate.
  2. Complete the 2020 HESI Application along with your essay by: 5:00pm Friday, March 27th 2020
  3. Choose a teacher (preferably a health pathway teacher) to complete the 2020 Teacher Recommendation Form. You can save and email the Teacher Recommendation (Google Doc) version of the form to your teacher, print it out and give it to your teacher to complete, or send them the link to your teacher of the (Google Form) version.

Teacher recommendation must be submitted by: 5:00pm Friday, March 27th 2020

When Will I Know If I Get In?

  • Applications and Teacher Recommendations will be reviewed, and students that are selected for an interview will be emailed an interview time by Friday, April 3rd.
  • Interviews will be conducted individually between April 3rd-8th
  • Interns will be selected following these interviews, and contacted by Wednesday, April 8th to be notified of their acceptance to the 2020 HESI Program.
  • The HESI Information meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 14th from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the Shasta College Health Science Center Room#8218 at 1400 Market Street, Redding, CA 96001
