In the past, you had to download one version for each language or type of content. Or just download an all-in-one that still installed separate versions of the software for different languages. Now with 2013 you get all the languages needed in each content oriented version of the 2013 express.

This question is more for my knowledge than anything (since I recently replaced my community editions and express editions with visual studio professional ), am well aware that Visual Studio Express is a very limited version, but is there anything actually that says that actually forbids small companies from using this on their machines.

I have 7 guys ( including me ) who basically use the IDE to make console applications and web applications, let's take a hypothetical case where 4 employees installed Visual Studio Express ( I just finished purchasing Visual Studio Professional for each one of them so this is no longer a problem for me) and the remaining 3 have Visual Studio Professional licenses, am I committing an kind of licensing infraction by using the express edition, I ask this, because of that's what one of the Microsoft Partner here said, they said, "You may not use Visual Studio Express for any kind of development activity that gets you paid".

Express is really free. It's also basically worthless :) I'd stop and ask yourself why you want to use it, because there is nearly no case where your business isn't the big loser with VisualStudio. It's free because it essentially is only useful for learning and making products that lock you into really high cost charges down the road.

Development studios are free for every major platform. Don't just jump into VS because you can get a free version. Chances are, 99% of the time, you should be running away from it.

I upgraded my home office setup to Pro after toying with the express version for about a month. Expected some of my issues to be resolved, but they simply were not fixed by going pro. For me, it was $500 wasted, completely.

You will need Pro in order to use this VAX. I am personally still struggling with the idea of investing even more money into it, but if you are just starting out, maybe consider the Pro cost to really be $600 with VAX. If you can deal with bad intellisense, then stick with express and put that money into something else. I also expected some improvements with the UE4 VS plugin as well, but have little reason to use it so far.

This is a great initiative, but as far as I am aware this is limited to three years. Not that it matters, because it would always be possible to fall back to the express version But still, I think it could be useful information for anyone interested in this. Unless I am mistaken of course, then please correct me Beyond that, I would be interested in this, because my trial of the professional version ended a week ago.

The CCompilerDriver documentation explains that to use visual studio express on 64-bit targets, it's necessary to install the windows SDK after installing visual studio. I have done this, first installing visual studio express 2010 and then installing v7.1 of the windows SDK. However, I still have a problem due to a missing LIBCMT.LIB

It took me several tries to get even this far, because I made the mistake of letting windows update install SP1 for visual studio express and this prevented installing the SDK, and I had had uninstall and reinstall everything a few times (it's not possible to simply uninstall SP1), so it's possible I've messed up my installation somehow. I can see that there is a LIBCMT.LIB in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\VC\lib which I presume is a 32-bit version of the library and not what the linker is looking for in this case.

I had the same issue. Repairing or reinstalling VS 2010 express didn't work either. Most of the lib files where missing. I ended up installing on another pc and copying the missing files. Then it worked like a charm. Hope this helps.

Final Cut Studio Pro (version 7) is the old version of Final Cut that was discontinued this year, though it can still be purchased if you ask.

Final Cut Express was a lower-end product that resembled Final Cut Studio, but was a slightly different interface. It was also discontinued this year.

Final Cut Pro X is the new video editor from Apple that takes the place of the old Final Cut Studio Pro.

The only choice you really have is Final Cut Pro X. That's the one in the Mac App Store. The only reason to seek out the old and more expensive Final Cut Studio Pro is if you are a large shop that has standardized on that old software and do not wish to retrain for the new one at this moment. Some studios use special features of that old version and are not ready to move on yet.

So, for you, the only choice is really Final Cut Pro X. It is what I use, starting about 20 episodes back.

I don't know what this "full version" of "Final Cut Pro Studio 10" would be. There is only one version of Final Cut Pro X and you can only get it from the Mac App Store.
