The goal of the FAMU Prefreshman Enrichment Program (FAMU+DRS PREP) is to enhance the academic backgrounds of socially and economically disadvantaged students at the middle and high school levels. Our curriculum focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) and the new exciting fields of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence courses in order to improve student’s comprehension of these topics and emphasize the importance of STEM fields in today’s world.

WHAT IS FAMU+DRS PREP? FAMU+DRS PREP is an intensive STEM-based pre-college engagement program, which provides educational enrichment opportunities for high-ability middle and high school students.
WHO CAN ATTEND? Middle school and high school students who are high achieving and are interested in learning about science, technology, engineering and mathematics professions. Students applying must be willing to attend an entire six weeks of their summer vacation. Minorities and females are especially encouraged to apply. Priority is given to students who are economically and socially disadvantaged.
COSTS? There is no tuition of fee to attend FAMU+DRS PREP

Summer 2024
The FAMU+DRS PREP summer program provided a comprehensive educational experience for seven students across various STEM disciplines, including Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science, and Engineering. The program aimed to equip students with foundational skills and spark their interest in these fields.
Key Activities and Outcomes
Computer Science: Students learned Python programming, foundational concepts, and the history of computer science. They were also introduced to Artificial Intelligence.
Mathematics: Students explored De Morgan's Laws of Logic, mathematical reasoning, and real-world problem-solving through modeling.
Data Science: Students utilized AI tools for research and writing and prepared presentations on their findings.
Engineering: Students learned about electricity, circuits, and Newton's laws of motion. They built their own circuits and participated in bridge-building projects.
Field Trips: Students visited the National Naval and Aviation Museum and the FAMU campus to explore real-world applications of STEM concepts.
