On June 1st 2023, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management (FECM) announced that GreenHouston is the thirdplace winner of the Carbon Management
Collegiate Competition! The competition challenged college students to help shape the future of carbon management by proposing regional carbon transport networks capable of transporting at least one million metric tons of CO2 per year.
Our team worked directly with Fluor Company to design our proposal with consideration to regional stakeholders, challenges, and cost variability; economics and business models; operational
safety; life cycle analysis; projected impacts of climate change; and environmental justice, social impacts, and engagement.
As a Carbon Management Collegiate Competition third place winner, our team received a $5,000 cash prize and present our winning proposal at DOE’s 2023 Carbon Management Annual Project Review Meeting. The Carbon Management Collegiate Competition is funded by FECM and administered by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
