Meet Mexican American writer Yasmín Ramirez and her debut memoir, ¡Ándale Prieta!: A Love Letter to My Family, from Cinco Puntos Press, an imprint of Lee & Low Books. The memoir delicately shows us the experience of a young Latina growing up on the U.S-Mexico Border and subsequent years searching for herself and fulfillment after the passing of her grandmother Ita.

Pedro was born in Durango, México. He is a journalist, filmmaker, writer and photographer mostly interested in social and human right issues. He’s been in the news media for over 25 years and has covered news events in the USA, the Middle East, Asia, Europe, Africa and Latin America. He has been nominated several times to the prestigious Emmy awards. As a world traveler, he has visited more than 60 countries.

That's My Librarian!: The Faculty-Librarian Partnership in Student Success - Lorely Ambriz and Dr. Melissa Esmacher, EPCC
This workshop will explore the different ways that instructional faculty and librarian partnership can positively contribute to students developing course-specific information literacy (IL) skills. This partnership can help address student equity issues in access to and training on information, including influencing collection development at college libraries. Interpreting the ACRL Framework for IL for Higher Education through a Diversity Equity & Inclusion lens enables librarians to elevate their own critical IL when approaching the design of IL instruction. Presenters will discuss their seven years of research in embedded librarianship and how it has enhanced student cultural awareness, IL, and overall student success.

Librarians Help Librarians Around the World
Carol Brey has served the U.S. State Department since 2010 as a Foreign Service Officer, most recently on a detail in Senator Ben Cardin’s Office (D) of Maryland. Prior to that she served as the Director of the Office of American Spaces in Washington, DC, overseeing more than 600 of these public diplomacy platforms in over 145 countries.
Overseas, Ms. Brey provided direct support for American Spaces throughout South America, nine countries in all, having served as a Regional Public Engagement Specialist (REPS) based at the U.S. Embassies in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from 2015-2018 and in Brasilia, Brazil from 2011-2013. She also served as Division Chief for Information Resource Officer Support and Training in the Office of American Spaces, where she developed and implemented a new worldwide training program
Before joining the Foreign Service, Ms. Brey worked as a public library administrator for 30 years, most recently as Director of the El Paso (TX) Public Library, and previously for libraries in New Mexico, Illinois, and Oklahoma. She is also a past president (2004-2005) of the American Library Association, the oldest and largest library association in the world, where she served as a spokesperson on libraries to the media and stakeholders, and advocated for libraries on the local, state, and national level – including Congress.
Ms. Brey pursued Ph.D. studies at the University of Texas at Austin, and holds a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Music from Illinois State University. She is very happy to be coming back to live in El Paso with her husband Adilson and their dogs Tiffany and Odie!
