Kindergarten
Students in Kindergarten learn to develop proper singing voice, rhythm, steady beat, and movement to music through songs from around the world in different languages and visit these countries and places through the use of Google Earth Pro.
First Grade
Students in First Grade learn to read and perform the different rhythms in music. This skill is reinforced through playing and learning the names of the instruments in the percussion family, drum competitions, and utilizing the Notation Pad App on the school iPads for students to learn how to create compositions with these rhythms.
Second Grade
Students in Second Grade learn to utilize Solfege syllables and hand signs to learn how to sing music and make connections between different notes and how they sound. They also learn to develop their pitch recognition skills through ear training practice and memory games. They also begin to learn to read the notes on the Treble and Bass Clef.
Third Grade
Students in Third Grade learn to play the recorder through a program called Recorder Karate. Students develop the skills necessary to play an instrument, when the enter fourth grade and are challenged to perform in front of an audience during the Spring Concert to earn their Black Belt. They also have the option to choose from twelve special belts to learn fingerings to notes that are not in the Recorder Karate Program.
Fourth Grade
Students in Fourth Grade learn how to count rhythms in measures and in different meters. They also learn about the different instrument families and Electronic instruments. They also learn how the respiratory system works and create the power to play instruments and sing, as well as problems that can affect the vocal cords. Students learn about Hamboning and utilize it to create and perform songs, as well as a form of basic communication.
Fifth Grade
Students in Fifth Grade learn about the different Genres of music and how each genre was created from the previous genre and how many of the genres borrow different aspects to build the genre. Students also listen to many selections of songs in each genre. Students also develop their constructive writing skills in response to prompts that are done each week in class about a composer, artist, or band.
Sixth Grade
Students in Sixth Grade learn about music history, but they focus on the centuries and how technology, societal, and economic advances helped or hurt the world of music and the arts. They also continue their writing prompts about composers, artists, and bands in order to complete their requirements to develop strong writing skills.
