We will deploy static underwater recorders and conduct towed acoustic surveys to understand marine mammal distribution, habitat use, and abundance in the northern Indian Ocean.
I am collaborating with the Habitats Initiative of Pardus to help wildlife lodges create experiences that spark a passion for conservation and turn lodges into hubs of conservation. I am also a consultant for them to carry out field based courses and naturalist trainings.
I was working with the Eastern Himalayas Program of Nature Conservation Foundation on a project assessing 20-year trends in hornbill occupancy through interview-based surveys in communities of Arunachal Pradesh to make a conservation action plan. We travelled across half of Arunachal Pradesh collect data on hornbill occurence and village councils through key-informant surveys.
I worked with Dr. VV Robin and Dr. Vijay Ramesh during my Master's Thesis at IISER Tirupati. I worked on understanding the patterns and mechanisms that may explain bird elevational range shifts in the Nilgiri Hills of the Western Ghats Biodiversity Hotspot. I integrated eBird data with systematic field surveys along the elevational gradient. This work is out now as a publication.
I investigated the divergence patterns within resident and migratory populations of the Grey-headed Canary-Flycatcher (Culicicapa ceylonensis). I adopted multimodal approaches - phylogenomics, morphometrics, and acoustic analyses to test hypotheses on the evolution of migratory behavior and the current distribution of the species. I received the Chapman Collections Grant from the American Museum of Natural History, NY, to visit their collections for this study.
I create bite-sized, engaging educational content in vlog format on my Instagram channel, covering ecology, natural history, and conservation. It started when, in the age of AI and space movies, I felt that young adults did not admire the outdoors and nature enough. Check out my content at ecoloji_with_faiji.
