Short Biography

Prof. Faissal El Bouanani (Member '16, Senior Member '19, IEEE) was born in Nador, Morocco, in 1974. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Network and Communication Engineering from Mohammed V University–Souissi, Rabat, Morocco, in 2004 and 2009, respectively. From 1997 to 2009, he was a faculty member at Moulay Ismail University (MIU), Meknes. In 2009, he joined ENSIAS, Mohammed V University in Rabat (M5UR), where he is currently a Full Professor. Dr. El Bouanani has also served from February 2022 to September 2025 as the Vice-Dean for Scientific Research and Cooperation at ENSIAS, M5UR, and as the Interim Director of the Doctoral Center ST2I, M5UR during the same period. He has supervised numerous Ph.D. and master's students at M5UR, MIU, and Mohammed First University in Oujda. To date, his research efforts have culminated in more than 140 papers in prestigious IEEE/ACM international conferences and journals. His current research interests include the performance analysis and design of wireless communication systems. His Ph.D. thesis was awarded as the best thesis by Mohammed V University–Souissi in 2010. He has served as TPC Chair for the ICSDE conferences and General Co-Chair for ACOSIS'16 and CommNet'18 conferences. He also served as TPC Chair for ICSDE'17 and '18 conferences, and as General Chair for the 2019–2026 CommNet conferences. Dr. El Bouanani currently serves as an editor for IEEE Communications Letters, and as an Associate Editor for IEEE Access and Frontiers in Communications and Networks journals. He is also serving as a Lead Guest Editor for the Physical Layer Security Special Issue in Frontiers in Communications and Networks.
