Blake Breland graduated with a degree in English and wishes to pursue a career in creative writing or journalism. He completed a research project exploring fairy tale elements in Hayao Miyazaki's film Spirited Away.
English graduate Sarah Casey completed a research project entitled “Liminal Spaces, Representation, and Magic in the Movie The Princess and the Frog.”
Brent George graduated with a degree in English and a minor in Creative Writing. His final project, “Fairy Tales in the Age of Science: How Brandon Sanderson Adapts Fairy Tale Traditions for a Modern Audience,” examines Sanderson’s Tress of the Emerald Sea. He plans to attend graduate school in English and pursue a career in higher education while writing fiction.
Kerrie Harrison graduated with a degree in English. Her final project, “Magical Motherhood: The Transformation of Motherhood Between Worlds,” examined mother figures in the television series Once Upon a Time.
Jordan Keller graduated with a major in English, a minor in Philosophy and a certificate in Ethics. His final project was called “She Lives: Friday the 13th, Final Girls, and Folklore as Anti-Patriarchy.”
Melissa King graduated with a major in English and plans to pursue graduate study in English. Her final project, "The Gods We Carry: Mythology as a Lens for Cultural Displacement and Identity," examined mythic revisions in Neil Gaiman's American Gods.
Hannah Lewis graduated with a double major in English and French. Her larger research project explored the reinvention of princess tropes in the anime Yona of the Dawn.
English graduate Savanna Lo Galbo completed her research project on revisions to the "Beauty and the Beast" story in Sarah J. Maas's A Court of Thorns and Roses.
Abby McCoy graduated with a degree in English, a minor in Political Science and a certificate in Ethics. Her larger research project, “An Adventure into Endings in Japanese Animated Fairytale," examines narrative structure in the anime Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. She plans to attend law school after graduation.
B. Schwab completed a research project on J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan, entitled “Eternal Youth: A Dream or A Curse.” B. graduated with a degree in English and wants to pursue a career in K-12 education.
Zoë Ward graduated with a degree in English and minors in Art and Marketing as well as a certificate in Publishing and Editing. Her project, “Transformations and Gender Within Angela Carter’s ‘The Lady of the House of Love’ and ‘Wolf Alice’,” examined stories from Carter's collection The Bloody Chamber.
Alani Walton’s final project was entitled “The Fairytale of an Outsider: Tim Burton in Creating Edward Scissorhands.” She graduated with a degree in English and a minor in Criminology.
Kamryn Williams completed a project entitled, “From Ovid’s Epic Metamorphoses to Anaïs Mitchell’s Broadway Musical Hadestown: A Myth and Fairytale Feminist Re-framing.” She graduated with a degree in English and a minor in Philosophy. She also earned certificates in Publishing and Editing and Ethics. Post-graduation, she plans to work in the publishing field before pursuing an advanced degree, preferably in the UK.
Sydney Williams wrote a final project entitled “Captivity, Control, and a Child’s Lens: How the Movie Room Reveals the Power of Women and Storytelling.” She graduated with a degree in English.
English graduate Kennedy Wilson wants to earn an advanced degree in writing and teach at a university. Her final project explored “Narratives of Control: Religion and Fairy Tale Structures in Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale.”
Nic York is a big music nerd who wants to pursue a career as a writer. He graduated with a degree in English and a minor in Creative Writing. His project was called “'King by Name, Just a Pawn': An Investigation of Fairy Tale Archetypes in Goblinsmoker’s Toad King Trilogy.”
