2020-21 Fairview Archery Club Information

The Fairview Archery Club is open to all students in grades 4 – 12 in the Central Local School District that have participated in the basic archery training class offered in the physical education classes at Fairview high, middle and elementary schools.

Keep in mind that all of this is subject to change at any time. Please understand that we, as coaches, will do our best to keep everyone informed as quickly as possible.

Fees

  • Fairview Archery Club Membership fees will be $60 per person and are due no later than January 9, 2021. Please make checks payable to Central Local Schools.

  • Fees can be paid by each archer or covered by participating in the Fairview Archery Club raffle.

  • The membership fees cover a club shirt, use of school equipment (including bows, arrows, and targets), and a portion of the expenses incurred through the state tournament. Any expenses beyond the state tournament will be the responsibility of the club member/parents.

    • Archers who have their own bow and want to use their own arrows are responsible for all maintenance and repair expenses for their personal bow and arrows.

      • Archers must have their initials on each arrow before the arrows can be used at practice or a tournament.

    • Archers who have their own bow are encouraged to purchase 2 extra arrow rests before the season begins. This part will break and cost $10-$15 each. They can be purchased locally at Derossett’s in Sherwood or on the internet at various sites.

Fundraiser

The Fairview Archery Club is once again having our annual bow raffle as our main fundraiser. All proceeds from Fairview ticket sales go to the Fairview Archery Club. Over the years this has allowed us to purchase equipment (such as bows, arrows, target faces) and repair materials, pay for the teams’ state archery tournament trip to Columbus in March, and provide an archery club t-shirt for each shooter.

  • The raffle drawing is scheduled for January 30, 2021 during the Fairview Tournament

  • Tickets will be distributed at practices as soon as they are received.

  • Tickets are $10.00 for one or $20 for 3 tickets. One book of tickets consists of 3 tickets. (Each person must sell 9 tickets to cover their club fees)

  • We ask that everyone start out with 3 books of tickets. When you sell the 3 books and return the money you can request more books of tickets. You are financially responsible for all the tickets you take so be sure to turn in the money as soon as you can.

  • All money and unsold tickets must be turned in on or before January 22, 2021.

  • Tickets and money must be returned in an envelope with the archer’s name clearly printed on the front of the envelope. Thank you, in advance, for your cooperation!

Due to COVID mandates this year, each archer needs to sign up for a practice time. This is the only practice time you are allowed to attend. Therefore, if you cannot make it to your scheduled practice time you will not be allowed to attend a different practice. Email Amy Woodring (amy.woodring@centrallocal.org) which practice time you want to sign up for ASAP.

Face masks/coverings must be worn by archers when entering and leaving practice. Once you are on the line to shoot, you may take your mask off while shooting. Parents who attend practice must wear a mask at all times while in the building. Coaches will wear masks at all times and the equipment will be disinfected between practices.

Weather Related Issues

As always, safety is very important to us. If the school cancels due to weather and the condition improves by the time practice starts we will have practice as scheduled. In any event, if you feel it is unsafe to come to a practice and/or tournament due to weather-related issues then err on the side of caution. We will never hold it against an archer if they miss for safety reasons.

Pick-up and Drop-off

Please make arrangements to have your archer picked up on time from practice. Our coaches volunteer their time and put a lot of effort into this. Please do your best to help them get home to their families in a timely manner.

Grades

As with all extra-curricular school activities, grades are an important part of our archery program. Students who do not meet the minimum qualifying grades outlined in the school handbook will not be allowed to participate in any tournament team. Begin now to get your grades up to the level required for participation.

Passing Grades are required to be eligible to participate in extracurricular activities. Passing Grades are obtained by 1.) attending school every day, 2.) actively listening to the teacher while in the classroom, 3.) completing and submitting all homework on time, and 4.) studying for and taking exams. See the school handbook for additional information.

Dress Code

  • The school dress code as outlined in the student handbook will be followed for all archery practices and tournaments

    • Please be aware that only closed-toed shoes may be worn when shooting and archers will not be permitted to shoot if they are wearing open-toed shoes

  • As a team, we will wear our team shirts with pants (jeans or khakis) that meet the school dress code for all archery tournaments as a team uniform.

Club members who do not follow the rules will be removed from the tournament. Club members who repeatedly fail to obey the rules will be removed from the archery club.

Tournament Team Make-up

Local Tournament Teams

Coaches will determine the team make-up based on the tournament format given to us by the sponsoring school.

  • Not all local tournaments allow elementary archers to participate

  • If you make the team, you are expected to attend all tournaments. If you can not attend, you must notify your coach so that an alternate can be moved into the roster.

  • Club members are responsible for their own transportation to and from these tournaments

  • It is our best intention to give each archer at least one opportunity to participate in a local tournament besides our own. However, we are limited in the number of archers that are allowed to participate in the other area tournaments.

School Tournament Date Team Make-up

Fairview Friday, January 29 EL, MS, HS

Fairview Saturday, January 30 EL, MS. HS

Montpelier Saturday, February 13 EL, MS, HS

Patrick Henry Saturday, February 20 EL, MS, HS

Tournament Team Qualifying

  • Teams for the first tournament will be determined in the following manner:

  • Each archer will have four opportunities to shoot for four qualifying scores

    • Scoring Practices

      • Middle School and High School

        • December 10, 12, 17, & 19

      • Elementary

        • December 9, 11, 16, & 18

      • On these predetermined dates archers will shoot at practices that will be run and scored just like a tournament

  • The average of each archer’s top three scores will determine their place on the tournament team

    • An archer must have at least 3 qualifying scores recorded to be averaged for the opportunity to be on the tournament team

2021 State Tournament Teams

The 2021 Ohio NASP State Tournament in Columbus, Ohio is tentatively March 20 - 21, 2021.

  • Each archer’s rolling average score, on the date of the state tournament pre-registration, will be used to determine each team.

Varsity Team – 24 members

  • Will be made up of the 24 archers with the highest scoring averages in grades 9 - 12

Middle School Team – 24 members

  • Will be made up of the 24 archers with the highest scoring averages in grades 6 - 8

Elementary Team—24 members

  • Will be made up of the 24 archers with the highest scoring averages in 4th and 5th grades (NASP building rule).

Please note that all 3 teams are required to follow the rule that 5 members must be of the opposite gender when selecting teams.

2021 National Tournament Teams

  • The 2020 National Tournament is tentatively scheduled for May 6 - 8, 2021 at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Kentucky.

  • Registration for the national tournament is as follows. When flights are full, registration closes.

Tier 1: 1st place teams by Division and 1st-10th place individuals by Division & Gender

Tier 1: Past male and female individual Overall National & World Champions.

Tier 2: Team scores greater than 2,999 (Elementary), 3,199 (Middle), and 3,299 (High)

Tier 3: Team scores greater than 2,849 (Elementary), 3,099 (Middle), and 3,199 (High)

Tier 4: Team scores greater than 2,649 (Elementary), 2,999 (Middle), and 3,099 (High)

  • Teams qualify for Nationals based on their team scores from the state tournament but must register according to the following registration tiers. Just because a team “qualifies” to go does not guarantee they will be able to participate since registration closes for any remaining tiers once all flights are full. Simply put: the higher the team score from our state tournament the better our chances to be able to register for the National Tournament.

  • Teams will be determined using the rules as set forth by NASP for the National Tournament

  • If it is decided to participate in the National Tournament, travel to and from the tournament and any expenses related to the tournament, will solely be the responsibility of the participating archer.

Parent Volunteers

Archery is a parent-run organization that does not turn away any parent that wishes to be involved. If you are a parent that does not wish to be trained to coach archery but still wants to volunteer their time please let your coach know. As opportunities come up we would love to have a list of those willing to fill in. We have many jobs during our archery tournament that we need volunteers for.
