Privacy Policy for Fairly
Effective date: July 17, 2026
Last updated: July 17, 2026
Fairly ("Fairly," "we," "us," or "our") provides a mobile application that helps couples notice, plan, and appreciate the mental load of running a household together (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
By creating an account or using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Account information
When you create an account (by email/password, Google Sign-In, or Sign in with Apple), we collect:
Your display name
Your email address
A profile photo/avatar URL, if your Google or Apple account provides one
A hashed/managed password, if you sign up with email — we never see or store your password in plain text; it is handled entirely by Firebase Authentication
1.2 Household and relationship data
Fairly's core feature is a shared household space between you and, if you choose to invite one, a partner. Data created inside that space includes:
Domains (categories of household responsibility, e.g. Meals, Finances) and any custom domains you add
Responsibilities you or your partner create, including their title, planning notes, and completion/appreciation messages
Weekly check-in answers — free-text reflections you and your partner write in response to a set of prompts
Appreciation messages sent between partners
Capacity flags (e.g. "new baby," "heavy workload") and Season Mode selections you set for yourself
Your household's invite code, used to pair with a partner
This data is visible only to you and the partner you are paired with in that household. It is never visible to any other Fairly user.
1.3 AI-generated observations
If you are a subscriber, Fairly's AI Mediator feature periodically generates a short, neutral written observation about patterns in your household's activity (for example, "Meals has had a lot of thinking-through lately — is something making that harder right now?").
Important: the AI Mediator never reads your free-text notes, check-in answers, or appreciation messages. It only ever receives aggregate, non-identifying counts — how many responsibilities in each domain reached each stage (Seen/Think/Act/Appreciate) over a recent time window, and which household member acted on them. This aggregate summary is sent to Google's Gemini API solely to generate the observation text; Google does not receive your names, messages, or any other personal content.
1.4 Subscription information
If you purchase a Fairly Premium subscription, your purchase is processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play and managed on our behalf by RevenueCat, a subscription management platform. We receive your entitlement status (e.g. "premium" or "free") from RevenueCat, but we do not receive or store your payment card details — those are held by Apple/Google.
1.5 Push notification data
If you enable notifications, we store a device push token (via Firebase Cloud Messaging) so we can deliver reminders such as a weekly check-in prompt. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings.
1.6 Automatically collected / technical data
Like most apps, we automatically collect limited technical data needed to operate the service reliably, such as crash logs and basic app usage signals from the Firebase platform (Firestore, Authentication, Cloud Functions, Cloud Messaging). We do not use third-party advertising trackers.
1.7 Information we do not collect
We do not knowingly collect precise location data, contacts, photos (beyond an optional profile avatar URL from your sign-in provider), or any payment card information.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information described above to:
Create and maintain your account and household space
Sync your household's shared data in real time between you and your partner
Generate the AI Mediator's aggregate, pattern-based observations (for subscribers)
Send you the notifications you've opted into (e.g. a weekly check-in reminder)
Process and manage your subscription entitlement
Maintain the security and reliability of the App, including diagnosing bugs and preventing abuse
Communicate with you about your account or respond to support requests you send us
We do not use your household data — your notes, check-in answers, or appreciation messages — to train any AI model, and we do not sell it, rent it, or share it with data brokers or advertisers.
3. Who We Share Information With
We share information only with:
Your paired partner, for whatever you both add to your shared household space — this is the core function of the App
Service providers who process data on our behalf under contractual confidentiality obligations, specifically:
Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore database, Cloud Functions, Cloud Messaging) — our core infrastructure
Google Gemini API — receives only the aggregate, non-identifying summary described in Section 1.3, never your free-text content
RevenueCat — subscription/entitlement management
Google Sign-In / Apple Sign in with Apple — only if you choose those sign-in methods
Law enforcement or regulators, only if required by law, to protect our legal rights, or to protect the safety of our users
A successor entity, if Fairly is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale — you will be notified before your data becomes subject to a different privacy policy
We do not sell your personal information.
4. Data Retention
We retain your account and household data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account (see Section 6), we permanently delete your personal account data. If you are the sole member of a household, the entire household and its contents (domains, responsibilities, check-ins, appreciations) are deleted as well. If you share a household with a partner, only your own account is removed — your partner keeps the shared space and its history.
5. Data Security
We rely on Firebase's security infrastructure, including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, and Firestore security rules that restrict every piece of household data to only the members of that household. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Your Rights and Choices
You can, at any time, from within the App:
View and edit your profile (display name) under Settings → Profile
Change your password (email/password accounts only) under Settings → Profile → Change Password
Delete your account and associated data under Settings → Profile → Delete Account — this is permanent and cannot be undone
Control notifications via your device's system settings
Manage or cancel your subscription via your Apple App Store or Google Play account settings
If you are located in a region with additional statutory rights (for example, the EU/UK's GDPR or California's CCPA/CPRA), you may also have the right to request a copy of your data, request correction of inaccurate data, or object to certain processing. Contact us using the details in Section 10 to exercise these rights.
7. Children's Privacy
Fairly is not directed at, and is not intended for use by, children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
8. International Data Transfers
Our service providers (Google Firebase, Google Gemini, RevenueCat) may process and store data in countries other than your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for these transfers.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the App or by other reasonable means before the change takes effect. Continuing to use Fairly after a change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.
