Help your child get ready to succeed in school by reading 1,000 books with them before kindergarten! Each book you read counts, including every reread favorite and book you hear in Story Time! Studies have shown that families who start reading aloud to their children at birth help strengthen their language skills and build their vocabulary.
It's not hard if you think about it this way: If you read just 1 book a night, you will have read 365 books in a year. That is 730 books in two years and 1,095 books in three years. If you consider that most children start kindergarten at around 5 years of age, you have more time than you think!
The library can help make it exciting. We will offer prizes every time you reach a milestone of 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900, and 1,000 books!
You read to your child and keep track of the books using the Beanstack reading tracker either on the web (mslmt.beanstack.com) or app, then come to the library once you've reached one of the milestones to get your reward!
