Abstract
Going through IC shortage crisis impacting global economic development during COVID-19 period, it has been widely aware that semiconductor manufacturing and supply chain from decades’ development is important to global economic. And we understand that any new technology without mass-production capability is just imagination and will not contribute to the world. When any technology steps into mass-production phase, the manufacturing capability will differentiate the companies who could really sustain the long-term capability during mass-production & finally become semiconductor technology company to win the semiconductor market. This article will elaborate the definition of manufacturing capability based on manufacturing performance, manufacturing theory and how to achieve competitive manufacturing performance with manufacturing system design and advanced manufacturing management method implementation. Semiconductor industry is one of complex manufacturing segments. And manufacturing system has been also developed together with innovation of IT technology in last 30 years to support the semiconductor technology development. The manufacturing performance from manufacturing capability defined by manufacturing IT system and manufacturing method will be explained in this work from the past, today and future.
