The Musicians
Carol Irving
Carol played the flute while attending school. When she went to college she added the dulcimer and autoharp. She's been playing the penny whistle for about 15 years. Originally from the Detroit Area, she has lived in Escanaba for over 46 years. She's a founding member of the band and loves Celtic music.
Bob started his violin journey at age eight when he began taking lessons from the small town musical savant who gave woodwind and brass lessons out of his hardware store. He grew up in a family where all four siblings each played instruments. Over the years he has had opportunities to play with multiple orchestras, string quartets, and small groups. He worked as a gastroenterologist for 34 years, then in public health for four years. Upon his retirement in 2025, he continues to play with the Marquette Symphony, Esky Baroque, and Faite', He still takes violin and fiddle lessons. Additionally he enjoys cycling, motorcycling, and racing sailboats.
Bruce Irving
Bruce was born and raised in Escanaba, where his father encouraged him to play music. He played trumpet in high school, then guitar, and then banjo. He has played in a few Bluegrass bands in the area and is now enjoying playing Celtic Music with Failte. He is also learning how to play the Bagpipes! Bruce, along with his wife Carol, is a founding member of Failte.
Rachelle St. John
Rachelle has been playing violin since she was a little girl in the kitchen of her grandparent's farmhouse. A devoted mother, she brings her kids up on good old fashioned love for folk music at their family home in the woods near Perronville. She's one of Faltie's fiddlers.
Trevor St. John
Trevor grew up playing piano and saxophone. He picked up the bodhrán on a whim a few years ago to join his wife (Rachelle) in Fáilte and discovered his untapped musical niche in the fun of Celtic rhythm.
Kathleen Creten
Kathleen was born and raised in Escanaba and for the last 37 years has resided on the shore of Bay de Noc in Ford River. In her winter home of Arizona she has been fortunate to be invited to join a “jam band” followed by a quality concert band and 12 member flute choir. She plays flute in the band. She says, "FAILTE has been an unexpected gift! Now my summer resounds with music!"
Jim Weber
Jim is from Manistique Township where he was born and raised, and has been playing accordion since he was 10. He also plays keyboard but accordion is his forte, and these days accordion players are a bit of a novelty. He plays in many of the local jams, and also in Texas during the winter. He feels very fortunate to be part of Failte where accordion music fits in with most selections.
