At first glance, GyroGear founder Faii Ong seems to be among the many Asian entrepreneurs going into the biotech industry. His medical device uses aerospace technology and gyroscopes to aid in the stabilization of people who suffer from hand tremors. It allows them to gain better control and get more out of their daily lives.
But Faii Ong is far from ordinary—his young age belies an extensive background as a scientist, a physician, and an engineer.
He graduated as a medical doctor from Imperial College London. He then took his studies to Harvard Medical School and the Boston Children's Hospital, where his high-impact research work in regenerative medicine, stem cell therapies, and medical devices became known.
This served as the foundation for Faii Ong's work beyond medicine. His goal has always been to help people with hand tremors, especially those afflicted by neurological diseases, so he turned to his skills as a scientist. He studied aerospace technology and gyroscopes to help him create what would be now known as the GyroGear, an innovative piece of equipment that combines medicine and technology.
The GyroGear came to fruition as Faii Ong tapped into his skills as an engineer. What was previously only a hobby for him—building his own audio systems and other items—now became his calling. He combined his knowledge of medicine and engineering to create GyroGlove's first iteration.
From there, the rest is history. As larger entities and investors saw his device, they believed in the vision and the goal behind it. It received two rounds of funding from investors who saw its founder's potential and decided to put their strength behind him.
Today, it has grown into a company that has been followed by several international publications, hoping that Faii Ong truly succeeds in developing a life-changing invention.
