Novel experiment involving high resolution inflow data from the Reese field site in Lubbock
On 24th June, 2025, TTU-AIR started collaborating with WERL lab at UIUC to understand the near-surface ABL boundary conditions from the field to inform CFD simulations.
Majority of the CFD simulations create their inflow based on wind tunnel measurements and some follow field observations at a single upwind location. We are trying to capture the inflow features at a much higher spatial and temporal resolution from the field in this experiment. Additionally, we have an instumented cubic building which is collecting wind induced pressures during the experiment. We believe this experiment can revolutionize the way wind tunnel and CFD simulation inflow are generated.
