Updates & Procedures

Attendance:

In Virginia, students enrolled in public schools are required to attend school regularly, regardless of the type of instruction offered. Our students need to be present, engaged, and supported as they return for the 2021-22 school year.

Technology Support:

There are tip sheets available on the FCPS Parent Technology Resource page in multiple languages that provide answers to basic questions about FCPS technologies. These resources will continue to be updated throughout the year; we encourage you to check that page first.

Parental Consent for Digital Resources:

At South County High School, our teachers will use a variety of digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent beore they can be used. Please indicate whether or not your student is allowed to use the list of digital resources here:

Grading:

All teachers will be using a rolling (cumulative) gradebook, which allows for progress towards a final mark that captures the total picture of student grades, regardless of length of quarter or number of assignments in each quarter. A rolling gradebook allows for flexibility and equitable grading practices given the uncertainty of schedules & likelihood of distance learning for some or all students during the 2020-21SY.

  • Cumulative - Grades from each quarter carry over and build upon the previous quarter

  • Quarter grades are a snapshot of a student’s current progress in the course and demonstrate performance to that date, not just the quarter.

  • Final grades are determined by a combination of all assignments and assessments throughout the year, regardless of the quarter the work was completed.

Breakfast/Lunch:

The USDA has approved 1 free breakfast and 1 free lunch to all students for the remainder of the school year (June 2022).

If a student would like "additional items" they would have to pay. Either with myschoolbucks (student account) or cash/check.

As of right now we are only offering the following items for a la carte:

Bottled water: 8oz. $0.50; 16oz. $1.00

Double Deal Main entree (hamburger; pizza; tenders; etc.): $2.50

A la Carte entree (hamburger; pizza; tenders; etc. by itself): $2.75

Milk (by itself) $0.60

Paperless Report Cards

Action Requested: Help save trees and FCPS $$ on postage by opting in to receive “Paperless” Report Cards (that can be printed through ParentVUE)

Parents/Guardians may opt into “Go Paperless” for report cards by following the below instructions:

  • Parents/Guardians can take advantage of the paperless option, by logging into SIS ParentVUE, then going to “My Account” and selecting "Go Paperless!". This is the only way to keep a paper report card from being generated for students at the secondary level. All parents who share the same address as the student must have a SIS ParentVUE account and must select the paperless option.
