Mary and Jonathan, two 2nd year residents, are assigned a QI project. They determine that they're both interested in genetic testing, having both gotten 23 and Me testing kits for Christmas. Each learned that they had a gene that increased their risk of dementia. They meet for coffee and discuss ideas for their QI projects. They see an opportunity to enhance dementia screening during the Medicare Annual Wellness Visits and ask their nurses to hand out an informational brochure about commercially available genetic screening tests. They then will ask the FCM Data Analyst to measure the number of dementia-related ICD10 codes entered on encounters in the 3 months prior to the intervention and for three months after the intervention and will send a survey to their eligible patients through MyChart asking whether they had a better understanding of dementia.
