In India, all the number plates are made up of four parts combinations of alphabets and numbers. Every state has its code, so the first two alphabets are the state code which is unique for each, and every state in the country after two alphabets next two digits is the code for the registration authority (RTO) of the state, which can be between 01-99, every RTO is assigned a unique serial number and assigned to particular RTO Number Plate, as RTO, therefore, it can be identified which part of the state or district the vehicle is registered. The third part of the number plate consists of alphabets that are a series of the registration that can be alphabets as per series, which can be one, two, or three alphabets as per the ongoing series. Finally, the fourth and last part of the number plate is the four-digit number which can be between 0001-9999, and the impressive numbers are allotted on payment of premiums by the RTO authority.

The high-security number plate is introduced since the year 2005 to facilitate car-related crimes.
