Who is this for?

• High School students, teachers, and staff at an assembly. Student age range is 13-18 years old.

Objective:

• After this lesson students should be able to identify the warning signs in unhealthy relationships such as: jealousy, isolation, physical and mental pain, and insecurity

Materials needed for this lesson:

• PowerPoint will be used for this activity, the PowerPoint will have terms, situations, and examples. Access to a projector is needed.

Set up:

• PowerPoint presentation and a group discussion

Steps:

• Before this activity we will cover the lesson titled Warning Signs for Parents, Teachers, and Students. For this activity there will be two example relationships. The students will see the example relationship on the PowerPoint and a presenter will read them out loud.

Relationship 1:

Kevin gets nervous when Stacy goes to the mall with her friends, while she’s at the mall he will constantly text her and ask for updates. If she misses an update text Kevin will call her.

What warning signs is Kevin showing?

The students, faculty, and staff then use the key terms we learned during the lesson to discuss warning signs.

Relationship 2:

Amber has a bad temper when Jen asks her too many questions. Jen feels like she has to stay quiet or else Amber calls her stupid or sometimes pushes her. Amber tells Jen it isn’t abuse because they’re both girls.

The students, faculty, and parents then answer using key terms we learned during the lesson to discuss warning signs

• Students use key terms from lesson and are engaged in the conversation

• Sacramento high school students, teachers, and staff at an assembly. Student age range is 13-18 years old. Parents are also encouraged to attend the assembly

Objective:

• To write out what "love" means to different people

Materials needed for this lesson:

• 3 big posters with a big heart on each and markers

Set up:

• The posters with the heart will be on the walls with markers next them

Steps:

• The presenter asks what love means to students, faculty and parents. It can be phrase written in the heart or just a single word

Assesment:

• We want to see words and phrases that are respectful. We want to see what the three different groups think love is

Evaluation:

• Seeing key words like "respectful", "consenting", "understanding" etc.

• For the last activity we'll spread positivity to someone significant in our life and model a healthy relationship to a significant other, a friend, a parent, or a teacher

Materials needed for this lesson:

• We need a small piece of paper and a pencil

Set up:

• After the last lesson we'll encourage the importance of having healthy relationships

Steps:

• In the previous activity we talked about what love is
• In this activity we will apply our idea of love and relate it to someone you care about
• Each person will be given a piece of paper and pencil, they will be encouraged to write a nice message to someone they care about

Assesment:

• Watching each person write their message

Evaluation:

• We can ask if there is any students, parents, or faculty that would like to share their written message to the assembly
