I'm looking for a "best practice" kind of answer with regard to Facebook Apps and staging/production environment. Instinctively, I've provided each environment with its own Facebook App, complete with its own ID and secret. It appears (here, here and through extensive Googling) that it's simply not possible to share OG configuration across apps, so I've been copying application settings across environments (icon, requested permissions and texts, etc). It's been a pain and ugly, but I've lived with it.

Test Apps are like regular apps in that they have their own App ID and independent settings, but they offer a number of advantages for use during pre-production: ... When creating test apps - the settings are copied from your production app so its simple to spinup new apps which mirror your production app's settings

I asked practically the same question at a breakout session at F8 last year. Creating multiple apps is the best practice. They are aware that it is an inconvenience, especially with the open graph objects and actions. They did however mention the possibility of setting up apps in the future via the API, but I am still waiting for this. Until then, it's a manual process.

This is my step-dad's Galaxy A01 running Android 11. His storage is being eaten up by several large apps like Facebook, Google play services, and messenger, which all have duplicate installations that have this double red circle icon in the bottom right corner.

These versions of the apps are not logged into anything but are still eating up tons of space. I thought maybe they were apps from a work profile, but there doesn't even appear to be an option in the settings for a work profile ("work" only returns network settings options).

On a similar note, if anyone can tell me why Im not able to move apps freely to the SD card that would be greatly appreciated. He got an SD card for Christmas expand his storage, but the storage problem is coming from apps, not files. And most apps can't be moved, and new apps can't be set to install to the SD card by default. So the vast majority of the SD card is sitting empty. It's literally almost 2022, the phone literally runs Linux, why is expanding storage such a problem for Google and Samsung?

I already enabled developer mode to force the OS to allow more apps to be moved to the SD card, but it's still a manual process, and many apps still can't even be moved. Samsung explicitly disabled the "format as internal storage" option apparently, which makes absolutely no sense.

Thanks for posting. Did you have a chance to check with the Facebook Community? They also have a Help Center. Were you able to cast other apps? Could you cast the Facebook app using another device? We look forward to your response.

NOTE - When looking for example apps that require the fallback to http, I couldn't find any. Did Facebook remove that requirement? If so, the second part of my question has become irrelevant. Instead, I wonder when and why this has changed.

Facebook apps are created through iFrame, not FBML as before. As iFrames are embedded websites, the code is hosted elsewhere, the source website must support HTTPS, which most websites dont (because of the extra costs).

A "face book" is a student directory featuring photos and personal information.[16] In 2003, Harvard had only a paper version[18] along with private online directories.[15][19] Zuckerberg told The Harvard Crimson, "Everyone's been talking a lot about a universal face book within Harvard. ... I think it's kind of silly that it would take the University a couple of years to get around to it. I can do it better than they can, and I can do it in a week."[19] In January 2004, Zuckerberg coded a new website, known as "TheFacebook", inspired by a Crimson editorial about Facemash, stating, "It is clear that the technology needed to create a centralized Website is readily available ... the benefits are many." Zuckerberg met with Harvard student Eduardo Saverin, and each of them agreed to invest $1,000 ($1,549 in 2022 dollars[20]) in the site.[21] On February 4, 2004, Zuckerberg launched "TheFacebook", originally located at thefacebook.com.[22]

In November 2021, Facebook stated it would stop targeting ads based on data related to health, race, ethnicity, political beliefs, religion and sexual orientation. The change will occur in January and will affect all apps owned by Meta Platforms.[210]

Each registered user on Facebook has a personal profile that shows their posts and content.[242] The format of individual user pages was revamped in September 2011 and became known as "Timeline", a chronological feed of a user's stories,[243][244] including status updates, photos, interactions with apps and events.[245] The layout let users add a "cover photo".[245] Users were given more privacy settings.[245] In 2007, Facebook launched Facebook Pages for brands and celebrities to interact with their fanbases.[246][247] 100,000 Pages[further explanation needed] launched in November.[248] In June 2009, Facebook introduced a "Usernames" feature, allowing users to choose a unique nickname used in the URL for their personal profile, for easier sharing.[249][250]

Complementing regular conversations, Messenger lets users make one-to-one[296] and group[297] voice[298] and video calls.[299] Its Android app has integrated support for SMS[300] and "Chat Heads", which are round profile photo icons appearing on-screen regardless of what app is open,[301] while both apps support multiple accounts,[302] conversations with optional end-to-end encryption[303] and "Instant Games".[304] Some features, including sending money[305] and requesting transportation,[306] are limited to the United States.[305] In 2017, Facebook added "Messenger Day", a feature that lets users share photos and videos in a story-format with all their friends with the content disappearing after 24 hours;[307] Reactions, which lets users tap and hold a message to add a reaction through an emoji;[308] and Mentions, which lets users in group conversations type @ to give a particular user a notification.[308]

Businesses and users can interact through Messenger with features such as tracking purchases and receiving notifications, and interacting with customer service representatives. Third-party developers can integrate apps into Messenger, letting users enter an app while inside Messenger and optionally share details from the app into a chat.[314] Developers can build chatbots into Messenger, for uses such as news publishers building bots to distribute news.[315] The M virtual assistant (U.S.) scans chats for keywords and suggests relevant actions, such as its payments system for users mentioning money.[316][317] Group chatbots appear in Messenger as "Chat Extensions". A "Discovery" tab allows finding bots, and enabling special, branded QR codes that, when scanned, take the user to a specific bot.[318]

When you choose to use third-party apps, websites, or other services that use, or are integrated with, our Products, they can receive information about what you post or share. For example, when you play a game with your Facebook friends or use a Facebook Comment or Share button on a website, the game developer or website can receive information about your activities in the game or receive a comment or link that you share from the website on Facebook. Also, when you download or use such third-party services, they can access your public profile on Facebook, and any information that you share with them. Apps and websites you use may receive your list of Facebook friends if you choose to share it with them. But apps and websites you use will not be able to receive any other information about your Facebook friends from you, or information about any of your Instagram followers (although your friends and followers may, of course, choose to share this information themselves). Information collected by these third-party services is subject to their own terms and policies, not this one.

Devices and operating systems providing native versions of Facebook and Instagram (i.e. where we have not developed our own first-party apps) will have access to all information you choose to share with them, including information your friends share with you, so they can provide our core functionality to you.

In many countries the social networking sites and mobile apps have been blocked temporarily or permanently, including China,[341] Iran,[342] Vietnam,[343] Pakistan,[344] Syria,[345] and North Korea. In May 2018, the government of Papua New Guinea announced that it would ban Facebook for a month while it considered the impact of the website on the country, though no ban has since occurred.[346] In 2019, Facebook announced it would start enforcing its ban on users, including influencers, promoting any vape, tobacco products, or weapons on its platforms.[347]

In 2016, Facebook Research launched Project Atlas, offering some users between the ages of 13 and 35 up to $20 per month ($24.00 in 2022 dollars[20]) in exchange for their personal data, including their app usage, web browsing history, web search history, location history, personal messages, photos, videos, emails and Amazon order history.[443][444] In January 2019, TechCrunch reported on the project. This led Apple to temporarily revoke Facebook's Enterprise Developer Program certificates for one day, preventing Facebook Research from operating on iOS devices and disabling Facebook's internal iOS apps.[444][445][446]

In January 2020, Facebook launched the Off-Facebook Activity page, which allows users to see information collected by Facebook about their non-Facebook activities.[452] The Washington Post columnist Geoffrey A. Fowler found that this included what other apps he used on his phone, even while the Facebook app was closed, what other web sites he visited on his phone, and what in-store purchases he made from affiliated businesses, even while his phone was completely off.[453] ff782bc1db
