For some, this doesn't matter. Your music player is king and so if it enforces case insensitive genres, this can be ignored. At least for now! In the future, you might adopt another music player that is case sensitive and splits your albums.

MPD simply runs in the background playing music from its playlist. Client programs communicate with MPD to manipulate playback, the playlist, and the database. It is not a full-featured music player program such as Amarok, but its clients can serve such role.
MPD uses a flat file database to maintain the basic music file information when it is not running. Once the daemon has been started, the database is kept completely in-memory and no hard disk access is necessary to look up or search for local audio files. I don't use VLC anymore - 1. got banned for querying a poor update, 2. it is bound to Pulse Audio.
In KDE I am using Kaffeine. Juk and Dragon Player don't do a thing - guess they are Pulse Audio dependent too. No issues with Kaffeine as I think it was one of the first players when ALSA was around. Plays videos and music without a glitch. Reminder: I am using KDE (Plasma) DE not Gnome or 'Default' Zorin DE.

I stuck with VLC, I love the overamping possibility and that I can cut audio files with it and sometimes save Youtube videos or watch streams. For me the best experience so far.
For music I started with Rythmbox, then Clementine, VLC too and Audicious, as it looked like Winamp. But in the last couple of years I only use Spotify and it's factory client.
Now I have 4 players to choose from VLC, Audacity, MPV and Moc player. Mocplayer is a command line app and easy to use and does not require much cpu usage. I also installed ffmpeg to go with so I can cut, paste, extract, adjust and work with video and music and image files from the command line.

Try this instead. Find the application called Synaptic; it comes with Mint. Once in Synaptic, do a search for an application called Audacious. That's another music player similar to Deadbeef. Mark it for install, and then apply. That will automatically download and install the program for you. Once complete, Audacious will appear in the menu with all your A/V programs. Then get another music player called Clementine. That's also a really good one to try. The main thing is to get a few programs installed so you see what the process is. If you see any other programs that look interesting, by all means, install them as well.
