Task Explanation and Rationale:

For this assignment, I envisioned creating a task for my science methods course students where they enter on the first day and have a task to create an introduction. This is the example I created for myself. Traditionally, I had students make name tags using index cards, then for the past couple years, I had students make button name tags. I think SCRATCH programming will be a cool feature of the first day of class to get them programming right away and be a novel way to provide introductions and get students cooperating with each other - its a nice ice-breaker.

For this assignment, I wanted to re-vamp a previous task I used in my science methods course where I used posters for students to create PSAs. I created an example of a fun ways to create a public service announcement that integrates science, health, and programming. I think one of the extra benefits of creating a program is that it can be shared with greater outreach than just creating for a course assignment - and it becomes easier to distribute, create copies for all group memebers, and save for the future.
