Campers registration opens in early February.
Classes offered this year will be different from last year's options. Campers can choose from seven tracks of classes, and we will do our best to give everyone one of their top choices. Campers will indicate their track preferences on the registration form.
High Challenge Course: Having accomplished the Low Challenge Course, adventurers can advance their skills through the High Ropes Challenges. With proper safety equipment, and under the watchful eye of trained facilitators, adventurers can advance their skills through scaling the Climbing Wall, and taking a Leap of Faith on our newest high element. Make no mistake: these elements require as much -- if not more -- teamwork as the Low Challenge Course. This is a two period class and is only offered once (periods 2&3 combined). *Closed-toe shoes required.
You MUST be 12 years-old+ to register for this class.
Leadership Development: Leadership is more than a title: do you have what it takes? Have fun practicing communication, cooperation, and leadership in 4-H style. There will be team challenges, problems to solve, and plenty of chances for you to influence others.
*Track A is for counselors-in-training only. Campers cannot sign up for track A.
Creeks and Critters: Take this class if you are interested in exploration, adventure, discovery, and “wow” moments. With nature as our classroom, we will spend time investigating Happy Creek, hiking on the Appalachian Trail, building habitats for wildlife, exploring the diversity of life that Lake Culpeper supports, and more!
Air Riflery: After a few days of instruction you might be 4-H Camp’s next “Top Shot.” Learn sportsmanship as you compete with your fellow classmates. This class is run under the instruction of a trained, qualified instructor while focusing on SAFETY, shooting, and marksmanship skills. *Closed-toe shoes required.
STEM: Ignite your curiosity in an action-packed class where science, technology, engineering, and math come to life! Campers will dive into hands-on projects, and fun experiments to test the limits. Through exciting experiments and problem-solving challenges, campers will develop critical thinking skills while having a blast exploring how STEM shapes the world around us. Get ready to invent, discover, and dream big!
Teambuilding/Low Ropes: Learn to communicate and work together as you tackle elements on our Low Challenge course. Just don’t get stuck in the Spider Web! *Closed-toe shoes required.
Fitness Fun: Strengthen your head, heart, hands, and health through fitness. Have a ball as you take part in some of the most popular camp games and activities, including Gau-Gau, pickle-ball, four square, basketball, disc golf, and more! Perfect for those who want to learn the basics of the games or just get active. *Closed-toe shoes required.
Arts and Crafts:
Paint, color, craft and be creative! Arts and Crafts gives you the opportunity to get creative, making art and items with your personal mark on each one. This highly active and creative crafts class lets campers use their imagination to develop skills and possibly a hobby to last a lifetime.
Swimming: For campers who can swim unaided across the pool and feel comfortable in depths over 4 feet, this class will cover more advanced strokes, use the diving board, and other fun water activities. For campers with little or no swimming experience, there will be an opportunity to participate in fun water games.
Performing Arts: Let’s take the stage and make some noise! Campers will dive into the world of performing arts through improv games, creative skits, line dancing, and hands-on percussion and music activities. Whether you’re acting out a scene, keeping the beat, or moving with confidence, there’s a place for everyone to shine. Show off your talents during camp showcases or spontaneous performances with friends! Through creativity, collaboration, and performance, campers will build confidence, express themselves, and have a blast doing it.
Mystery Lab: Solve the greatest camp mystery in this one-of-a-kind class! Campers will dive into the world of forensic science, uncovering clues through fun experiments like extracting DNA from strawberries, analyzing fingerprints, and solving mini-mysteries. Using real scientific techniques, campers will explore the fascinating science behind forensic investigations while developing their observation and critical thinking skills. Get ready to crack the case with science!
Canoeing: A paddle, a life jacket, and a canoe – it doesn’t get much better than this! Come to class prepared to learn some basic canoeing strokes, safety, and have fun as you navigate the wild, wonderful waters of Lake Culpeper! If you are lucky you might even get to go for a dip if you choose to tip your canoe on the last day. *Old shoes, water shoes or strapped sandals required (Crocs WITH heel strap are okay).
Archery: What do fletching, quivers, and Robin Hood all have in common? Find out when you learn basic archery skills in this class taught by a trained instructor. Class will have a strong emphasis on SAFETY and mastery. *Closed-toe shoes required.
Edible Creations: Get ready to mix, measure, and munch in a hands-on food science class! Campers will explore the fascinating world of food chemistry, experimenting with flavors, textures, and techniques to create tasty treats. This class blends science with creativity for deliciously fun results. Perfect for curious minds and budding chefs alike! With an emphasis on food science and kitchen safety, this class is a wonderful entrypoint into the world of cooking.
Campfire Cooking: Going on a day hike or an overnight campout? Campers will learn how to make simple, tasty, and fun foods that will keep them going all day. Learn how to cook over a campfire so you can share your new favorites with friends and family on your next camping trip. *Closed-toe shoes required.
Multimedia: Lights, camera, action… and byline! In this multimedia class, campers will explore photography and journalism to tell the story of camp. Snap amazing photos, learn how to crop and edit them, and turn your images into dynamic presentations. Then, step into the world of reporting—interview campers, teens, and staff, write articles, and create fun columns for our very own camp newspaper. Your work will be showcased at the camp closing ceremony for everyone to enjoy!
Fishing: Take in the beauty of Lake Culpeper while learning fishing techniques! Campers will learn the basics of casting, baiting, and reeling in their own catch. Whether you're a first-time fisher or a seasoned angler, this class offers the perfect blend of skill-building, outdoor adventure, and appreciation for nature. Get ready to cast off and make some big catches!This class will learn safety and build mastery in fishing from the lake shores. *Closed-toe shoes required.*
Outdoor Living Skills: Learn all about the skills it takes to thrive and survive in the outdoors. Pitching tents, hiking, and fire-building are all things you will tackle in this class! Oh, yeah, and everyone who takes this class will get to camp under the stars and eat s’mores for one special night of camp! *Closed-toe shoes required.
Animal Science: Get ready to go wild! In this Animal Science class, campers will explore the amazing world of animals—big and small. Observe, investigate, and learn about their habitats, behaviors, and care while getting hands-on with activities like feeding, grooming, and building enrichment for our animal friends. From mammals to reptiles and everything in between, you’ll uncover the science behind the creatures we share our world with—and maybe even discover your inner zoologist!
Yoga: Strengthen your head, heart, hands, and health through yoga. You’ll learn to increase fitness, decrease stress, and improve mental focus in a noncompetitive manner. Camel pose? Cow pose? Cobra pose, anyone? Don’t know what these are? RELAX. You will after this fun class.
