  • Setting up DOSBox to play F1GP/WC.

F1GP/WC can be played natively on DOS and older Windows operating systems up to Windows XP, that have integrated DOS support.

On modern operating systems, F1GP can be played using the DOSBox emulator.

Recommended DOSBox settings for F1GP/WC:

Settings are given for DOSBox 0.74.

  • core = auto
  • cputype = auto

Recommended cycles:

  • cycles = fixed 30000

Minimum cycles for running the game at 25 FPS with full details and textures enabled (in-car view):

  • cycles = fixed 20000

Minimum cycles for running the game at 25 FPS with full details and textures disabled (in-car view):

  • cycles = fixed 12000

The best way to check if the cycles setting is correct is to start a race at a track with a lot of details, like Hockenheim. Check the processor occupancy by pressing and holding the O key, when a lot of cars are in frame, as this will require the most performance. It should be below 100% at all times. If the value goes above 100%, the number of cycles needs to be increased. Using the external camera view will require a higher number of cycles than the minimum values listed above, and using the recommended or a higher value is suggested.

The time in the game will normally run a bit faster than in real life. This is because the game was programmed in such a way to match the lap times achieved in real life F1. The exact timing depends on the track.
