Eyes to See was established in 2018 as an outdoor co-op. We came together to build a community of families who educate our children according to the Charlotte Mason method. What started out as a nature study and handicraft group has grown to include classes in art, poetry, Shakespeare and music. We are a welcoming community who share the belief that the best education is powered by a feast of ideas. If you have questions about us, please reach out to EyesToSeeCoOp@gmail.com.
FAQs
Eyes to See is an outdoor co-op that meets on Wednesdays twice a month. The first monthly gathering takes place at our home base, which is currently on the FEAST grounds at Denman Estate Park. The second meetings of the month are at various parks throughout the San Antonio area. Gatherings begin at 9:00 am and end after lunch by 2:00 pm.
We are not a drop-off program. Because we are an at-cost cooperative, guardians are expected to stay on site and assist with the running of the co-op. We have people who act as class parents to ensure the safety of children whose parents are teaching or assisting another class, but you maintain the ultimate responsibility for your children while at the gatherings.
Eyes to See is for children ages 6-17. We offer some classes for all ages, and other classes that are suitable for specific age ranges.
We encourage you to attend our planning sessions so we can best determine the class needs, the class ages, and the class leaders. Planning sessions for the 2022-2023 school year will be announced in April.
You must have at least one child age 6 or over who participates in our classes. Children under 6 are our "tagalongs." They are welcome to attend gatherings. Children who are able to quietly entertain themselves may sit in on classes, with the understanding that they will not receive one on one instruction. Parents who wish their tagalong children to learn in class must sit with them to provide any extra instruction they need. We ask this so that the class leaders and assistants can focus on the participating students in the class.
Tagalongs who prefer not to sit in class are also welcome. Because we are an outdoor co-op, they are free to quietly enjoy nature under your supervision.
Eyes to See charges $50 per family for the school year. This money goes towards class supplies and printing costs. Supplies that are better bought individually (notebooks, books, pencils, tools, etc.) are purchased by the families. Science classes (age 13+) will have an additional cost per student to cover the cost of lab supplies. We offer an optional Spanish class that also has a per-family cost, if you choose to join.
Since we are an at-cost cooperative, we ask all attending guardians to pitch in to help the gatherings run smoothly. This can be anything from class leader, class parent, toddler care, or assisting the class leaders in their lessons.
We open registration once per year, in the summer before the school year begins. We announce open registration in the Charlotte Mason Support Group Facebook page, as well as in the Eyes to See Facebook page. When registration is open, click on the "Registration" button on the website footer to fill out the form.
Registration priorities are as follows, and continue until either classes are full, or one month before our orientation:
Returning co-op members, and the families of class leaders
Members who have taken a sabbatical of no more than 2 terms
New members with children of participating age where we have space available
Other registrations in the order recieved
We maintain a waiting list. If a family drops out at any point through the year, we will contact the waiting list members using the above priorities, and invite them to register. Wait list invitations will be made for the start of the next term, up to the start of term 3.
We are an independent cooperative of families and are not affiliated with FEAST. Through an agreement with the FEAST board, we are able to use the grounds for our home base gatherings. All participating families are expected to sign a liability waiver before they can join us on the FEAST grounds. We are extremely grateful to FEAST for their generosity towards us.
