Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What should I expect during an eye exam?

A: You will be asked about your medical history and any vision problems you might be experiencing. We will measure your visual acuity and use the refraction process to determine if you need glasses or contacts to improve your vision. The health of the eye will be assessed with several tests including checking the pressure of the eyes, slit lamp examination to evaluate the cornea along with other structures and a dilated fundus examination or retinal images to evaluate the retina.

Q: What should I bring to my eye exam?

A: You should bring a list of all your current medications and include any known drug allergies. Your most recent glasses or contact lens prescription if not from our office and your insurance card and a valid ID.

Q: How often should I get my eyes checked?

A: It is recommended that you get a yearly health assessment of your eyes and vision, especially if you have a history of diabetes, hypertension or any ocular disease.

Q: When should I bring my child in for an eye exam?

A: The American Optometric Association recommends that at about 6 months you should take your baby to a doctor of optometry for his or her first thorough eye exam, sooner if you notice excessive tearing, red or encrusted eyelids, constant eye turning , or the appearance of a white pupil. InfantSEE is program where participating doctors of optometry provide a comprehensive infant eye assessment between 6 and 12 months of age as a no-cost public service. Visit the InfantSEE website to locate a doctor in your area that can provide that examination. Here at Eyeconic View Eyecare we start seeing children at the age of six and are happy to recommend a pediatric optometrist or ophthalmologist for children of a younger age.

Q: Can you tell me which contact lenses are right for me?

A: Absolutely! There are many different brands of contact lenses and we want to make sure you are put in lenses that properly fit the curvature of your eye, have good movement and centration on the cornea, are comfortable, give the best vision and work the best for your lifestyle.
