There are many benefits that come with using AI in learning setups. For the most part, AI tools such as ChatGPT can be maximized to give students and teachers an easier yet effective school experience that is still of quality. With its ability to adapt to students’ individual learning needs, AI can deliver personalized instructions, or adaptive learning, with their students’ strengths and weaknesses in mind (Lynch, 2017). They call this an “Intelligent Tutoring System.” With this, all students, regardless of disabilities, can have access to the same quality of education.
AI is also capable of grading. With this task being one of the most tedious that teachers have to accomplish, having the help of AI in managing it could be extremely helpful. AI can compile data on their students’ performances and effectively evaluate more abstract outputs such as essays and artworks. This greatly lightens their loads and provides teachers with a chance to give more time to lesson plans and student-focused learning, essentially making school a more welcoming and encouraging sanctuary for students and faculty alike.
Educational materials can also be translated into multiple languages using AI tools like ChatGPT, making them more accessible to a wider audience. A generative model that was trained on a dataset of bilingual sentence pairs was able to deliver state-of-the-art results on a number of translation benchmarks while accurately translating between languages. The study demonstrated that the model was capable of accurately translating statements in one language while comprehending their meaning in the other (Baidoo-Anu, Ansah, 2023). With this, learners can be provided with more accessible, accurate, and reliable reading materials.
62% percent of students get higher test scores through AI adaptive learning. Grades went up by 30% while reducing students’ anxiety by 20%. An AI teaching assistant named Jill Watson, developed by IBM’s Watson, answered 10,000 messages a semester with a 97% success rate. These statistics only scratch the surface of what AI can do in favor of the educational system.
Overall, AI tools have as much potential to help students learn as it does to keep them from it. When used correctly, they can be revolutionary for the academic field. From immediate and personalized tutoring services to creative evaluations, these tools can amplify the learning strengths of the students and teachers and help them develop their weaknesses. They just have to be used with honesty and good will. Like anything else in life, the use of AI in education is only good in moderation. Responsibility and awareness is the key. It is a nearly undeniable fact that ChatGPT and other generative AI have come to stay and will continue revolutionizing the current educational system (Baidoo-Anu, Ansah, 2023). Whether it will be used to work towards the goal of making the world a more inclusive, thoughtful, and uplifting place for everyone is up to the people.
