These dates are mandatory, please put them in your calendar!
Welcome to Extreme! We are so happy to have you! You'll find all the information you need within this website. Please read on to learn more about how our company works!
We’re proud to be the largest inclusive dance organization at the University of Florida, bringing together dancers of all backgrounds and experience levels - from complete beginners to lifelong performers. Our company explores a wide variety of styles, including jazz, contemporary, hip hop, tap, modern, ballet, and musical theater. Whether you're stepping into a studio for the first time or continuing a lifelong passion, there’s a place for you here.
We hold placement auditions each semester to understand each dancers' skills. Based on your skill level, you'll be placed into a group (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, or C2) that best matches your experience. No matter what level you're placed in, every dancer gets equal performance opportunities on stage.
Our most advanced group, A1, also takes on the role of choreographers. Members of A1 choreograph for the rest of the company in addition to learning their own dances, making it a rewarding leadership position with a greater time commitment. Learn more about choreographing and A1 here.
We encourage all members to review choreography between practices. To make this easier, our Webmaster, Erika, records and uploads videos of every dance. We wrap up each Tuesday rehearsal with showing, where we perform all level and optional dances for the rest of the company!
Our company-wide practices are every Tuesday from 6:45 to 9:30 pm in the O’Connell Center Practice Courts. We dance within our levels to learn our Jazz and Contemporary dances, which we alternate between weeks to learn, starting with Jazz. A1 practices their Jazz and Contemporary dances on Sundays at 4pm.
Sundays at 12pm, and Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7pm, we have practices for optional dances. All levels are welcome (and encouraged) to participate in optionals!
We will also have technique classes, which can be taught by anyone in the company! Technique classes are also a good chance to practice and improve certain skills!
The entire schedule for the semester, including practices, socials, performances, and fundraisers, can be found on the Google Calendar, which you can join here!
In addition to our level dances (Jazz and Contemporary), we have optional dances that anyone can sign up to join. The optional dances are: Opener, Hip Hop, Tap, Ballet, Modern, Musical Theater, and Closer. They are always a lot of fun, so I highly recommend signing up for any of them that sound interesting to you! You don’t have to have any prior experience in that style of dance to sign up, so even if it’s new to you, you should definitely try it!
Signups will go out in the Sunday email before a new optional begins, so make sure to check your inbox so you can be sure to get a spot! If we have too many signups, we have to cap the dances at around forty dancers, and they go on a first-come, first serve basis.
Consistent attendance is a very important part of being a part of the company, because missing practice means you miss new choreography. If you have to miss a practice, please fill out the absence form at least 24 hours in advance. If you are unsure whether your absence, will be excused please do not hesitate to contact Kellie at extremedancesecretary@gmail.com. Of course, illness and certain events are impossible to predict, so if anything happens that prevents you from being able to come to practice the day of, still fill out the form or contact Kellie.
If you miss more than one optional practice or more than two Jazz or Contemporary practices, you may be removed from the dance.
Leading up to our showcase, we will have cleaning rehearsals and Show Week rehearsals. These rehearsals are very important, as we are putting our entire show together! These rehearsal dates are inputted in the calendar. Attendance is MANDATORY at all cleanings for dances you are in, and for every day of show week. If you have any excused absences for those rehearsals, please reach out to Kellie (extremedancesecretary@gmail.com) ASAP to let her know. If you miss more than one day of show week, choreographers reserve the right to remove you from dances.
If you have any questions or concerns about attending practices for the semester, please reach out to extremedancepresident@gmail.com and I’ll be happy to work with you. For example, certain members only dance in optionals because they have other commitments on Tuesday nights. Just let me know, and we can work something out. :)
We try our best to make sure Extreme is a fun, stress-free environment. That being said, we understand that life happens, and the company may not be something that you can fully commit yourself to any longer. If this is the case, we love and support you no matter what. 💗
Please reach out to Kellie at extremedancesecretary@gmail.com or Nur at extremedancepresident@gmail.com, if you are unsure about your decision or would like to discuss it further. We will always try our best to come up with a solution that works for everyone.
After thinking it through, if your decision still stands, please send us an email so that we can alert your choreographers and remove you from the respective dances.
