I am trying to connect an external microphone (Bietrun UHF Wireless) to HP EliteBook 840 G8 with Windows 10 Pro (build 19044). The device manager says that the Realtek Audio input driver is working properly. However, the test says that the microphone is not connected.

If you are interested in using the microphone on your computer or laptop for more than just basic, personal tasks, you may find yourself wanting a higher-quality microphone than the built-in one your computer uses. But how do you set up an external microphone on Windows 10 and make it the default?

since a couple of days we have issues with external headsets or microphones (all vendors effected). The microphone from the external device is not working, it is detected in device manager and is available in a app like MS Teams but it is not working (e.g. Zoom show the error "there is something wrong with the mic"). Doesn't matter if connected via USB or Bluetooth. The speaker works fine also the internal mic from the laptop works.

Whether it is virtual meetings, learning from home, or talking to your teammates while gaming, clear audio from the microphone is important. Sound recording issues can occur whether you are using the integrated microphone on laptops, external, USB, or Bluetooth microphones or headsets. If you notice any of the following symptoms, the steps below will help you test the microphone.

My headset microphone is not detected on Kubuntu, yet the speaker is fine. I had the same problem on Windows 10 (dual booted) but I fixed it by downloading the audio drivers for my motherboard. They don't offer drivers for linux on the website, though. Should I be trying to download the drivers on linux?

If your mic isn't working in Windows 10, it could be due to faulty hardware, missing device drivers, audio input being muted, and more. Some fixes for when your microphone isn't working in Windows 10 include running the Windows 10 troubleshooter, checking your mic's mute button, checking Device Manager to make sure your PC can detect your mic, disabling other Bluetooth devices, and more.

Do you want to get optimal sound performance and quality for your microphone device? If the microphone is not working properly, has poor sound quality, or has extremely low volume, the driver could be outdated, missing, or corrupted, and the solution is to download a newer version. In this guide, you will find the best ways to download & install a microphone driver for Windows 10. Make sure to keep on reading!

Hi, I have a Mac Mini late 2012. Everything works fine apart from my microphone, it works perfectly on OS X and on other devices so it isn't a hardware issue. I can see it in "sounds" but no input is detected. I've tried in the microphone port, in the headphone port and with a adaptor from Headphone + Mic. I think my microphone and headphones both have the same driver, is that possible?

Another reason why you might be facing the microphone issue is because of outdated or faulty drivers. Since drivers connect your hardware devices to the system, even a minor issue with them can prevent you from using the device properly.

I don't deal with microphones much, but when you've got a DisplayPort or HDMI display, those can register as sound devices and can sometimes become the default. When the user has external speakers plugged into the PC's built-in sound card, and the DisplayPort display takes over as default, no sound will come out of the speakers. It's quite annoying, and the solution is inobvious to the average user.

If you think the problem is with your sound card, or if you tried all the steps and nothing worked, you can always buy an external sound card which can be connected to your computer via USB and you can then plug your microphone to it.

Same here, it seems that the built-in camera and microphone of the 15 inch Samsung Galaxy Book Pro 360 stopped working. Is this because of a recent Windows update? I tried everything that I could think of, i.e. updated all drivers via Samsung Update app, installed all the latest Windows 11 updates, ran the troubleshooter, uninstalled and re-installed all relevant drivers, etc. Still no joy, it's like the camera and mic module are not visible by windows. Tried this in various apps like Cortana, Camera app, Zoom, etc, with the same results on all of them, no luck. As soon as I connected an external set of headphones the external mic worked fine with no issues at all. Could you please advice what to do next? Thanks

The latest upgrade of Windows from Microsoft is Windows 11. Although this new Window is more user-friendly, easy to understand, with a nice interface, users still encounter lots of problems. One of such problems is the Realtek microphone not working. Realtek is one of the most popular audio driver manufacturers used by so many people around the globe. When this device stops working, it becomes frustrating for Windows 11 users. Don't worry. Here is all you need to know in order to fix the Microphone not working Realtek problem.

If the microphone you are using is an external one and it is still not working, then the problem could be as a result of a loose connection, faulty microphone, or a damaged wire. Try reconnecting the device to check if it works, or connect the microphone to another computer to check if the microphone is faulty. In addition, the problem could also be a faulty jack. So to confirm that the jack is not faulty, connect a Bluetooth device and see if it works.

This problem has become more prevalent after the introduction of the Windows 10 Creators update. There are many reasons why internal and external microphones don't work, including incorrect audio drivers, operating system issues, hardware problems, and so on.

Find "Recording Audio" under "Find and fix other problems" and select it. Click "Run the troubleshooter" and follow the instructions. See if the Windows Update Troubleshooter solves the problem with the external or internal microphone. In addition, run the "Speech" troubleshooter.

You can try to uninstall and then let Windows reinstall drivers automatically, or you can update drivers manually (or try both methods). To reinstall microphone drivers, type "device manager" in Search and click the "Device Manager" result.

Setting up the mic and it doesn't hear or recognise the microphone array. Can't use Cortana or Google speech (ok google on chrome). When looking at the settings and increasing microphone boost etc, it doesn't hear any sound. When setting up mic windows says it can't hear anything.

I uninstalled the audio devices from the device manager, rebooted, and in the sound settings, recording tab, you can see that the microphone is picking up the sound. But once I install the Realtek drivers, through the Intel Drivers and Support app, the microphones don't pick anything up. Without the realtek drivers, Google speech recognition works, but once the realtek drivers go on, it doesn't. Cortana doesn't work at all under any circumstance.

Whether you're using a built-in microphone or one that's connected externally, there are multiple volume controls and potential places where the microphone might be muted, so you'll need to check them all if your microphone isn't working.

For GPS devices that require an external antenna, place the antenna on the roof of the vehicle while the GPS device itself is secured within the vehicle. If cables are required to power or connect the GPS to the detector, run cables through the passenger window, similar to the microphone cable.
