Charles Tsui DMA LTCL
Charles Tsui is an active pianist and educator based in Williamstown, Massachusetts. He is currently an Artist Associate in Collaborative Piano at Williams College, where he works closely with students on recital preparation and performance. He has also served as an orchestral pianist with the Berkshire Symphony.
In addition to his collegiate work, Charles is an orchestral and band director within the Pittsfield Public Schools, serving multiple schools as a music educator and conductor. He previously taught at the Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion Charter School, where he led orchestral performances and developed programs integrating music education with cultural learning and community engagement.
Charles maintains a private teaching studio, offering piano and lower string instruction to students of various ages and levels. His students have earned performance diplomas and graded examination certifications from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, Trinity College London, and the Royal Conservatory of Music of Canada.
An active church musician, Charles serves as Music Director and Organist at the First Congregational Church of North Adams. He is also regularly invited to present lunchtime concert programs at St John’s Episcopal Church, collaborating with local and national musicians and contributing to the cultural life of the local community.
Charles has collaborated with students, faculty, and artists from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Amherst College, the Longy School of Music of Bard College, the University of Missouri–Kansas City, the University of Kansas, the University of Washington, Central Methodist University, and Lyric Opera of Kansas City. His collaborative work has included performances with violinist Rachel Lee Priday and soprano Jennifer Forni, with broadcasts on Kansas Public Radio.
Originally from Hong Kong, Charles has performed internationally in China, England, Japan, South Korea, and the United States. Before relocating to Massachusetts, he was Assistant Professor of Music at Missouri Valley College and held the Dr Phillip Sisk Memorial Piano Chair with the Topeka Symphony Orchestra. He also served as staff pianist and manager of the Heartland Chamber Music Festival and has adjudicated competitions, including the Young Artist Competition in Topeka and the International Fringe Association Music Competition in Hong Kong.
Charles earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Missouri–Kansas City under the guidance of Alon Goldstein. He also studied at the Longy School of Music of Bard College and Hong Kong Baptist University and holds the Licentiate of Trinity College London. His teachers include Jane Solose, Henry Kramer, Ludmilla Lifson, Norman Lee, and Hung Chong.
