A collection of artwork, photos, folklore and snippets of local history.
“Exploring Ayrshire'' was first exhibited by Rebecca Scott at the Studio and Gallery, Kilbirnie throughout October 2023. The artist’s aim was to share the results of her travels through a fascinating county rich with history, storytelling and legend. Rebecca was born in Kilbirnie, North Ayrshire, and has lived there for most of her life. Despite this there was much of the area that she had not explored, and she felt inspired to undertake a project to delve into Ayrshire and learn about people from the past and their tales.
This project is shaped by journeys through Ayrshire — photographs taken while walking its coasts, ruins, and hills, learning and experiencing each site directly.
Through this project, Ayrshire’s folklore and history come alive in artworks that reflect the region’s legendary characters and real figures alike.
Ayrshire Scots language is woven into artworks inspired by the region’s folklore.
Through collaboration with partners, schools, and community groups, this project helps keep Ayrshire’s folklore alive and meaningful today.
