STRENGTHS

Mendez-Nuñez is characterized by a cool and refreshing climate that continues to attract visitors. The town is also known for its famous local delicacy, Jacobina, which reflects its local culture and identity. It provides a peaceful and relaxing environment that serves as an escape from the busy city life. Its proximity to Tagaytay City makes it a convenient and accessible side-trip destination for tourists, offering a calm and affordable alternative to the crowded tourist spots nearby.

WEAKNESSES

Development of tourism in Cavite is notably concentrated in select areas particularly in Tagaytay City. According to Daily Tribune (2024), the city recorded over 6.5 million same-day visitors in the last quarter of 2023 which significantly surpassed other municipalities in terms of tourist arrivals. Additionally, Tagaytay is widely considered as the country’s second summer capital next to Baguio (Manondo, 2023). As a neighboring municipality, this may be a weakness for Mendez as it may result in it being overshadowed by Tagaytay’s advancement in infrastructures, destinations, and fame. By prioritizing in overcoming this constraint will boost the capabilities of Mendez in attracting more tourists and help in competing against other destinations in regards to tourism aspects.

OPPORTUNITIES

Mendez, Cavite has an ideal location for farming due to its fertile soil, cool climate, and abundant water resources, which make it highly suitable for cultivating high-value crops such as coffee, strawberries, pineapples, and various highland vegetables. These natural advantages allow the municipality to support productive agriculture that contributes to the local economy and provides employment opportunities for residents. With many idle lands available, Mendez has great potential to be developed into a High-Value Crops Center, aligning with the goals of the High-Value Crops Development Act of 1995.

THREATS

It is one of the smallest towns in upland Cavite, and less renowned as other tourist destinations like its neighbors to its South. Tagaytay city is one of the most frequented places in the south because of its outstanding scenery. Mendez, on the other hand, remains more rural and agricultural. The threats in Mendez would likely focus more on limited infrastructure, overshadowing by Tagaytay tourism.
