2019日本文化祭へ ようこそ~！

Welcome to Explore Japan 2019!

We hope you will have a fun and meaningful experience at Explore Japan 2019. There are numerous Japanese cultural activities for you to participate in and to experience. To help you understand Japanese culture and behave appropriately throughout the opening ceremony and workshops, we would like to list some key Japanese values for you:

• Attentiveness - Pay attention to the things around you in each classroom. (e.g. do you see "Japanese things" in classrooms? do you see any instructors in traditional Japanese clothing?)
• Quiet and Respectful - Once you enter the classrooms, please do not engage in any personal conversation. Please raise your hand to ask questions (we are expecting many questions from you!) and walk along hallways quietly.
• Cleanliness - Please keep your belongings tidy in your designated room or location.
• Harmony - Instructors will greet you at the start and the end of the class in Japanese. Please respond properly with a smile and in Japanese if possible.

In the classrooms, instructors will use the following Japanese expressions. Can you respond in Japanese?

Instructors: おはようございます。/ こんにちは。

Students: おはようございます。/ こんにちは。

Instructor: ジョンさん?

Student (ジョン): はい。

Instructors: これでおわります。さよなら。

Students: ありがとうございました。さよなら。

Additional Japanese expressions:

Notes:

1. Please wear suitable clothes and shoes for the Karate, Taiko, Kimono, Tea Cermony and Calligraphy workshops. (e.g. Instructors may ask you to take off heavy tops like hoodies for Kimono-wearing.

2. Please do not smoke at any time or anywhere during the program. It will be a non-smoking event.
